I just read about this and think it is pretty cool. There is now a vacation camp in Germany for gendervariant kids, mostly this is for kids who were assigned the gender male at birth, though with the new regulation in Germany there is now not the need to have a gender entry at birth anymore. So this camp is basically for kids who are showing signs of having a male body but not being sterotypical males. This includes crossdressing boys, genderfluids, gay boys but also transsexual girls who were assigned a male gender role before. In that camp gender sterotypes are gone and these kids can play the games they want, dress as they like, act as they like and be themselves. In the article there were images of young kids with nice dresses playing ropejump games and with dolls but also playing outside in the meadows and such. This liberation must be sooooo cool for these kids. Be girlish for a few weeks and not be punished but rather be among others who want this too. The article said that kids joining these camps are later turning out to be about 60-80% gay boys, about 10-20% transsexual girls and the rest are boys who needed to explore their feminine sides but are ok just being hetero boys later.

I keep having to imagine how cool it would have been to have such an option instead of sitting at the child psych making sure not to tell about my secret.

The article is in GEO magazine, 12/2013

Didn't make me misty eyed at all.

That's pretty awesome.

We have several in the US. I have a dream of being a counselor there at some point.

Wow, cool. I do not know how many there are here in Germany or for how long they exist, but I found out about it just now and it makes me happy to know such places exist nowadays
