This Monday, I started seeing a therapist! I'm really happy - she's incredibly nice, supportive, and she really understands (I suppose that's her job, but she definitely has a personal attitude of caring in a deep way). What have your experiences been with therapists?

I never went to a therapist but I tell you one thing if someone was paying me 80+ dollars an hour I would be as nice as you can be. Crap I would even tell the person what they wanted to hear and I would be very crafty to keep them coming back.

Well, I don't think she's like that. Maybe I'm just naive, but it seems to me she's quite personally interested in my well-being and informedness.

FalsePrincess, thanks for the reply. I hope everything works out okay, even though it sounds like your new therapist is a lot better :)

Mine pisses me off frequently.. And I've not seen him for several months as a result of his last annoying episode. Any therapist that did what you suggest is no use to anyone as a therapist..

Well, I've seen two gender therapists.

The first of which I wanted to punch in the face after fifteen minutes.

The second is meh. I've only seen her once.

I've seen a lot of other therapists, but I don't get much out of talk therapy.

My first therapist sucked, he was always trying to compare my life to his and would spend half the session talking about himself and his mother, bleh. Then while I was inpatient I guess the guy was ok, but was involved with so many patients it never felt very personal. After I got out of the hospital I got a new full time therapist who was the first one I actually told I was feeling trans and he basically said he had no idea how to treat that.... Finally got to my new therapist last week and made sure she knew transgender patients and their issues. She was so great and understanding and was the first time I kind of enjoyed therapy, and she even brought up "the letter" before me saying it would take a few more sessions but I seemed in need of HRT.
