Nolwenn

Hi,

I live in China and I would like to have a FFS. I contacted Femilife before and the quote was really ok but now Im wondering since Im living here down in Shanghai, wouldnt be cheaper to go to S.Korea or Thailand?

The thing is for Thailand I didnt find any affordable surgeon (imo Chettawut and Suporn are really expensive for FFS, they are well-skilled but still that's too much for me).

Any idea for a proper surgeon able to give a decent surgery in my region?

FYI this what Nikky gave me as a quote:

"
Dear Nolwenn

About our services

This is a medical package with an unbeatable offer, if compared with the individual cost of our procedures, which we are detailing below.

As this is a set of surgical procedures, we offer you a special price which also includes the services of accommodation, transportation and permanent care during the process.

Surgery requirements

To undergo an operation, our patients must meet only one requirement ─they must be in perfect health condition, free of HIV or hepatitis. If your are a senior, with a background of past diseases, we suggest that you take the corresponding checkup to confirm your current health condition, prior to booking the date of your surgery.

During your second day of stay in Peru, our patients undergo a strict pre-operative control that includes blood tests, to confirm the information we have received. Should the exams yield negative test results, you will lose your booking and your money will not be refunded, because we did not serve another person on the date booked for you.

Booking a surgical procedure

If your are a candidate for a feminization surgical procedure with Femilife, you may book a date by paying 20% of the value of the procedure, two (2) months before the date of the operation. The balance of the value must be paid thirty (30) days before the surgical procedure.

We recommend that you book the date of your surgery in advance, and you must request information about available dates, if you wish to be operated within a short term.

The only case in which the money of the booking will be returned is if the patient gives a notice thirty (30) days before the date foreseen for the operation. No money will be refunded for any concept whatsoever once this term has elapsed.

It is possible to reschedule the date of a surgery, provided this is requested one (1) month prior to the date of the operation.

Payment methods

Our services are quoted in US Dollars. If you come from a country that uses another type of currency, we would appreciate it if you would use the exchange rate of the date on which the transaction occurs.

FEMILIFE does not cover money remittance expenses. All the payments for our feminization medical procedures, from the booking of the surgery until the final payment must be made through bank transfers to our US Dollars accounts. The expenses for the transfers or money remittances will be paid by the patient.

Ask your bank about money transfer expenses. It normally takes about five (5) working days to check your deposit in our account. Kindly wait for such a period to receive our confirmation that the payment has been made.

This is the most reliable and safest payment method for both parties.

Scheduling a facial feminization surgery (FFS)

Hospitalization

Facial feminization patients are admitted to the hospital four (4) hours before their surgery, and will remain at the hospital for two (2) nights.

The cost of hospitalization, which covers food, is included in the price of the surgery. The patient will have a private room and will not be shared with other patients, unless otherwise specifically requested.

Patients may keep one person in their own room (the rooms are rather spacious), taking into account that the patient companion's bed is a regular hospital bed.

The hospital staff in charge will control the patient every half hour during the first post-operative night, to make sure that everything is going fine. You will feel safe and well cared for, and will have an optimum response period in case of any emergency. In addition, our advisor will visit you twice a day to confirm that everything is in perfect order.

Duration of the stay after the operation

After the operation has been performed and the hospitalization is over, we request that you stay here for a minimum of fifteen (15) days. In case your have undergone other body surgeries, your stay should be prolonged for thirty (30) days, to allow a satisfactory recovery.

During this term, even at your accommodation, you will receive our supervisor's daily visit and the medication necessary for your recovery, and you must take one or two weekly checkups.

Your agenda/itinerary would be as follows:

Day (-1) Arrival and pick-up at airport. Arrival at the chosen accommodation and interview with our representative

Day (-2) Resting time. Visit to the office to meet the surgeons and take medical tests

Day (3) Reception at the hospital. Surgical procedure

Day (4) Discharge from the hospital

Days (5) - (15) Recovery, tests, rest

Hormones and antiandrogens your usually take must be suspended for at least ten (10) days before the surgery, and may be resumed ten (10) days after the FFS.

Information about your flights

We would appreciate it if you send us the information regarding your arrival and departure flights, which must include dates and times, name of airline(s) and flight numbers.

Service protocol

We have established a service protocol for our patients, which starts with the first contact they make with us. We will coordinate all the details of the surgery and stay in our country in the days prior to your arrival.

Our service includes the pick-up at our Jorge Chávez International Airport, where we will attend carrying a paging board with our name (FEMILIFE) that will easily identify us. It will be very pleasurable for us to cordially welcome and transfer you in our private transportation to the chosen accommodation.

All your pre-operative examinations will be performed during the second day, to confirm your health condition, and we have scheduled your first visit with our doctors, who have previously evaluated your case and will confirm what they have seen in the pictures you sent to us.

Our medical staff

All our surgeries are guaranteed by the professionalism and capacity of our doctors, who work every day, directly performing both cranio-maxillofacial and cosmetic surgeries.

Each one of our specialists works with a medical team specially trained for our surgeries, assisted by an anesthesiologist and duly trained nurses.

International medical insurance

As a precaution, it is important that your consult in your country of origin about any international medical insurance that may help you in case any health problem may arise.

Lifetime guarantee

Regardless of the surgical procedures that may be performed, Femilife offers a lifetime guarantee. This means that, if a patient is not satisfied with the result of any procedure he has undergone, this procedure will be corrected free of charge for medical fees and administrative personnel services (transportation, company and telephone service). Patients will only pay for surgical and hospital expenses, as well as for accommodation and food.

Please read the informed consent of the Facial Feminization Surgery very carefully. It will be sent to you during the process for booking your surgery

Patient protocol

If you decide to undergo a surgical procedure with us, there will be no "hidden extra costs".

The services we cover are listed below:

· Pick-up the patient and his companions at the "Jorge Chávez" International Airport in Lima, regardless of the day or time of arrival of your flight. Transfer to the airport at the end of your stay. However, the price of the round trip tickets to Peru is not included in the final price.

· During the admission and hospital discharge period, patients will remain at the chosen accommodation. We are in charge of preparing it through our contacts with various real estate brokers who rent us apartments at special prices.

· All medical expenses directly related to the surgical procedures incurred during the stay, and all medications and medical supplies provided.

· Medical visits and checkups performed at the medical facility, including blood tests, electrocardiogram, X-rays, and, if applicable, the fees of the anesthesiologist and surgeon.

· Night shift services provided by a member of our staff during the first night after the surgery.

· Cost of food and accommodation received during your hospitalization until the post-operative recovery stage. Accommodation stands for a private bedroom with TV set and air conditioned. At your choice, you may request the accommodation of companions in the same private room assigned to you.

· Daily post-operative controls performed by our nursing staff, throughout your stay at the hospital and accommodation.

· Post-operative visits with the doctor at least twice a week or more frequently, if necessary.

Specific exclusion

As aforementioned, the price includes all medical and hospital post-operative costs resulting from the operation, including those related to possible complications derived from the surgeries performed. On the contrary, we will NOT be liable for medical expenses related to illnesses not specifically derived from the surgeries performed, or those resulting from subsequent diseases.

INFORMED CONSENT

FACIAL FEMINIZATION SURGERY PROTOCOL:

The cranio-maxillofacial feminization surgery protocol establishes a facial harmony based on facial feminization patterns, and changes the skeletal structure of the face through invasive surgical procedures performed under general anesthesia.

Facial feminization surgery is worldwide known by the following acronyms in English: FFS, and Spanish: CFF.

The results of a cranio-maxillofacial feminization surgery vary according to each patient, depending on his previous facial features. The success of a FFS depends on each person's opinion. Facial feminization surgery does not ensure a complete transformation to the desired gender, but a considerable improvement in facial appearance.

The patient will be prepared for surgery by taking computerized axial tomography (CAT) scans, blood tests, and the corresponding cardiological evaluations, and any other tests that FEMIFLIFE's MEDICAL STAFF may deem pertinent for the optimum evaluation of a patient's health condition.

This surgical procedure has to be performed by a cranio-maxillofacial surgeon. Most patients require more than one surgical procedure to satisfactorily correct their problems.

During the surgery, the anesthesiologist is the specialist in charge of administering anesthetics and sedating the patient, and providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in case of any trans-operative eventuality.

Cranio-maxillofacial feminization surgery is a procedure performed in an operating room, with the presence of an anesthesiology team. This includes CUTTING EDGE ANESTHESIOLOGY EQUIPMENT and a specialized nursing staff, apart from the safety of an operating room, to provide the patient with the maximum safety for his health and life.

This informed consent is intended to inform the patient about the details of the surgery and treatments he will undergo. It is a medical-legal document that protects the patient's right to be informed about the details of his treatment and surgeries before he authorizes them.

After the surgery, the patient will remain at the hospital for a period of time to be decided by the attending doctor.

I clearly understand and accept the following conditions:

1) The same as in any cranio-maxillofacial surgery, the goal of the facial feminization protocol is to improve the function and aesthetic appearance based on the feminization patterns of the human face─not perfection.

2) The final result will not be evident until 3-6 months after the procedure. In some cases, it may require more time.

3) A strict observation of the indications before and after the procedure is necessary to obtain the best possible results.

4) More than one surgery could be necessary to achieve the best possible result. I understand that I am responsible for the costs of the hospital, professional fees, ancillary tests and supplies to be used in these additional surgeries. These surgeries are part of the process of the facial feminization treatment and are not "touch-ups."

5) Cranio-maxillofacial surgery requires a pre and post-operative evaluation, which includes a pre-operative medical visit, X-rays, CAT scans and the corresponding post-operative checkups. The costs of these evaluation tests may be requested before or after the surgery, and the patient is responsible for these costs.

6) Facial feminization surgery will sometimes require a pre and post-operative orthodontic preparation performed by an orthodontist. The patient is responsible for attending his appointments with the orthodontist until the completion of his pre and post-operative treatment, committing to complete it, after having been informed that this is necessary to achieve the best possible results.

7) I am responsible for paying my orthodontic treatment, which I will directly agree with the orthodontist. This cost is separate from the costs of the surgery, tests and medications.

8) Cranio-maxillofacial feminization surgery requires the use of screws, titanium miniplates and (silastic/porex/peek) prostheses. These materials will permanently remain on my face, as they are biocompatible and have the corresponding sanitary registrations; i.e., they are not rejected by the body. However, in exceptional cases, an infection, rejection or extrusion of miniplates and/or screws and/or prostheses, bruises and/or infection may occur, and a surgery may be necessary to remove those devices. In those cases, an additional surgery would be necessary to perform a surgical cleaning and removing any material that may be harmful for the patient. Should this situation arise, I am responsible for the expenses incurred in the removal procedure, such as operating room, tests, anesthesia, medicines, and miscellaneous expenses.

9) It is very possible that blood units may be necessary in some cases to restore the blood that may be lost during the surgery. Should this happen in my case, FEMILIFE's medical staff will timely inform me, so that I may coordinate the availability thereof.

10) It is very possible that after a facial feminization surgery it may be necessary to insert a drain that would remain in the wound for several days.

11) I have not taken aspirin or any product containing aspirin, for at least two (2) weeks before the procedure.

12) There is no express or implicit guarantee that the expected or anticipated results may be achieved.

13) I am completely aware that the amount to be disbursed is for the concept of carrying out a Cranio-Maxillofacial (Feminization) procedure, and not for a guaranteed result. I clearly acknowledge there are not reimbursements and that I am forced to pay the rate, whether or not I may be satisfied with the final results.

14) I understand that the FACIAL FEMINIZATION surgical procedure is contraindicated in determined patients (see below), and that I am not one of these patients:

a) Patient with a previous thrombophlebitis or infection

b) Patient with poor blood circulation or confined to bed

c) Patient wit a background of pulmonary embolism or blood clots in the lungs

d) Patient with a background of multiple and severe allergic reactions

e) Patient with a background of uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or collagen vascular disease (e.g., LUPUS, etc.)

f) Patient with a background of uncontrolled bleeding

g) Patient whose blood tests tested positive for hepatitis, HIV or AIDS (evaluate the feasibility)

h) Patient with a background of coronary cardiovascular pathology and/or any other important condition

i) Patient who, according to the judgment of FEMILIFE's medical staff, has another illness that may jeopardize his physical or mental integrity during and after the surgical procedure.

15) I understand and accept that, should I belong to any of the cases mentioned in item 14) I must be reevaluated by a specialist of the involved area, who will decided if I can be operated and the conditions under which this surgery will be performed.

16) I authorize and accept the use of photos or video taken before, during or after the procedure, so FEMLIFE's medical staff may monitor the results, under the assumption that they will not be used for dissemination purposes without prior written authorization by the patient.

The same as any Major Surgical Procedure, this could have complications, and I am aware that the following situations may arise:

1) Skin irregularities, presence of nodules, hardening, dimples that may appear after the procedure. Most of these irregularities will disappear over time and/or with massage. Should there be redundant skin in the treated area, it could be fully retracted to form the contour.

2) Loss of sensitivity and/or mobility of some area of the face due to a lesion and/or compression and/or post-surgical inflammatory process of a nerve. This may be a transient or permanent loss.

3) Infections, seromas or bruises are rare, but may arise. They may require treatment with antibiotics and/or drainage.

4) Anesthesia or the increase in skin sensitivity in the treated areas may persist for months. It is infrequent that areas remain permanently anesthetized or with increased sensitivity.

5) The normal collateral effects of Cranio-Maxillofacial Feminization Surgery include pain, inflammation, bruises, seromas, edema (swelling), anesthetized skin and minor skin irregularities. Some of these effects may take several months to be resolved.

6) Noticeable scars or changes in pigmentation may be observed, depending on the patient's type of skin and individual healing characteristics. Although a good medical record allows predicting the type of healing of every patient, there may be exceptional cases in which an aggressive (keloid) formation occurs, and this is something that could not be predicted or avoided.

7) Post-operative bleeding is not infrequent. I understand that, in case this eventuality may arise, the patient is responsible for the expenses incurred in procedures, tests, blood transfusions, hospitalization and medicines required.

8) In case of emergency, I give my consent to transfer me to a nearby hospital. I understand that I am responsible for the transportation expenses arisen during my transfer, as well as for expenses related to hospitalization, medical services, blood transfusions, laboratory or radiological tests, and other expenses that may arise (SEE MEDICAL INSURANCE TOPIC).

9) I confirm that FEMILIFE staff has explained to me the nature, purpose, limitations and possible consequences of this Cranio-Maxillofacial Feminization Surgical Procedure, as well as the possible risks and complications it involves. I understand that the explanation I have received is not thorough and that other complications and risks may occur. I have been warned that I could receive a more detailed explanation if I want, but I do not want any further explanation. All my questions I asked were answered to my full satisfaction.

10) The surger(y)(ies) and/or procedure(s) I will undergo this time are:

Bone Remodeling Frontoplasty Type I

Bone Remodeling Frntoplasty Type II

Supraorbital Ridge Reduction

Shortening of UpperThird Face Area (advancement of scalp insertion line)

Doctor's and staff member's statement:

I have explained the content of this document to the patient and have answered all his questions in the best possible way to the best of my knowledge. The patient gave his consent and has received a copy of this document.

Risks involved in Facial Feminization Surgery:

Any cranio-maxillofacial surgery implies a risk of infection, bleeding, scars, rejection of prosthesis and biocompatible devices, or even death. All pre-operative studies and preventive measures are taken to minimize these risks.

Patients may minimize surgery risks by not taking any medicine that has not been authorized by FEMILIFE's medical staff, which may negatively affect the procedure, and by following pre and post-operative indications in a responsible manner. Patients must inform the doctor if they are taking any permanent or occasional medicines, including medicinal herbs and/or another type of drugs, etc.

Excessive bleeding risks: A Cranio-Maxillofacial Feminization Surgical Procedure involves cutting face bones with special surgical saws. Bleeding may occur while face bones are cut. Should the bleeding be excessive, a blood transfusion, hospitalization and measures to compensate hypovolemia would be required. In some cases, it would be necessary to admit the patient to an Intensive Care Unit.

Risks of rejecting biocompatible materials: In some cases, biocompatible materials, such as titanium miniplates, titanium screws, biocompatible prostheses and any other biocompatible devices placed on the face to be temporarily or permanently left there may cause rejection, infection, bruises, or presence of seromatous fluid accumulation. In these cases, it is necessary to perform one or several additional procedures to remove the material and any blood or pus that may be harmful to the patient.

Loss of skin sensitivity and/or face mobility: A cranio-maxillofacial surgery may result in the temporary or permanent dysfunction of some nerve that provides sensitivity to the face or mobility to face muscles. Although special attention is usually paid to prevent this, it may not be discarded as a possibility in any surgery of this type.

Decrease in temporomandibular joint opening: The temporomandibular joint could be affected after a cranio-maxillofacial surgery. The most common problem is the decrease in the mobility and opening of the mouth, which may or may not be accompanied by pain (TMJ Ankylosis). These cases may occur in joints with an early articular disease or in case of old traumas that involved a prolonged joint immobilization. Even though all measures have been adopted to prevent this complication, ----due to the fragility of some joints--- in some cases this could be inevitable.

Post-Operative inflammation: The post-operative inflammation in a patient that has undergone a Cranio-Maxillofacial Feminization Surgery may last several weeks. Due to the patient's anxiety status, this prolonged inflammation could exacerbate his anxiety. Low-power laser therapy and lymphatic drainage may shorten this post-operative period.

Post-operative recovery: The recovery after a Maxillofacial Feminization Surgery implies a limited yet defined degree of pain, swelling and skin hardening. A slight temporary anesthesia/paresthesia (localized partial or total lack of sensitivity) may persist for more than ten (10) months. The noticeable swelling may persist beyond six (6) weeks after the procedure. This may worry the client. With the passing of the weeks, the swelling will improve and the patient's new aspect will gradually emerge. The post-operative period may be uncomfortable, because of the splints and rubber bands which the patient has to wear and difficult his eating and vocalization.

Realistic expectations: Although the results of Maxillofacial Feminization Surgery are frequently spectacular, it is not realistic to expect perfection. It is impossible to guarantee the exact amount of improvement to be achieved with a maxillofacial feminization surgery. Patients should not have unrealistic expectations. Even though patients may expect to achieve at least fifty percent (50%) of improvement, it is unreal to expect a ninety-five percent (95%) improvement or almost perfection. Usually it is necessary to perform several additional procedures to achieve better results.

Duration of results: The results are permanent because cranio-maxillofacial surgery changes facial bone structure. Nevertheless, it is important to mention that, due to the aging effects typical of the human being, rejuvenation procedures of bone and/or soft parts may be necessary after some time.

If you have more questions please tell me

My best wishes

Wow 13k full FFS and all that? That's awesome. What's their reputation like?

Yes, the price is very attractive but the email with the quote sounds really rude to me.
Especially when they refer to FFS patients as "he":
"This informed consent is intended to inform the patient about the details of the surgery and treatments he will undergo"
"Pick-up the patient and his companions at the "Jorge Chávez" International Airport in Lima"
"The results of a cranio-maxillofacial feminization surgery vary according to each patient, depending on his previous facial features"
"to provide the patient with the maximum safety for his health and life"
"The patient gave his consent and has received a copy of this document"
And so on and on.

I hope the quality of their surgeries is better than their communication skills, for the sake of those who still want to go.

I also find this statement disturbing: "It is possible that during the consultation the Dr has a more accurate review of your features and choose not to perform any procedure.(One or two procedures that are performed will not change the budget)"

Although i think it is a mistake by Nicky, you should also consider that she is not fluent in english so proberly this is some standerd text she got somewhere or maybe drafted it with a translator tool or something.Personally i wouldnt rule out such an important decision on a detail like this but that is just me.

I'd stay away from Femilife. I've had bad experience with them. Their post-op care was bleh. Dr. Pimentel was very conservative. I think he did a horrible job on my face.  I guess cause he never done an Asian patient before so he didn't have much knowledge about Asian features or something but I still look the same compared to pre-op. The changes were very little. Like my freaking jaw is still square,  the doctor could have shaven it down a lot more. Oh he did a lip lift on me and I've an uneven upper lip now and I'm sure that it's not due to the swelling. I'm gonna have to get a revision on that.

The forehead reconstruction was pretty bleh too like he shaved the orbital rims to smooth out my forehead a lil bit when he's supposed to make it round and have a nice curvature on profile angle by placing an implant or injecting fat in the forehead and my hollow temples but he didn't. So I guess I could say that the  doctor was kinda lazy and does not willing take that extra step to make a patient looks better. He pretty much just do a half-ass job at everything. And you won't be able to find his qualifications/credentials on Femilife because he doesn't own it, Nikky owns Femilife.

Nikky herself is a pretty lazy person.  She took forever to reply to your email and she's always late when coming to pick you up for check-up, etc. And when I said late, I mean 30 mins to 1 hours late, not 10-15 mins. She made me get a taxi to go back from Femilife clinic to the apartment on my own with my face still very swollen. I looked hideous walking around the park full of people trying to find a taxi. It's not easy go get one around because there's a lot of construction going on. The apartment is very close to the clinic, like 5-6 mins drive, you can literally walk if you wanted to but that's not the point. That's Nikky job. She's supposed to pick me up and drop me off especially my face was still very swollen even after 13 days so nobody wanna walk around in public like that.

Nikky English wasn't good at all. Trust me you don't wanna deal with a patient coordinator who can barely understand you because you can't contact the doctor as in you have to go through her to get to the doctor and if she doesn't understand you then you're in trouble. By the way, nobody works at Femilife clinic. Nikky is the only one who has the key, the clinic only opens if she took a patient there for checkup. It was so funny to see the doctor waiting outside of the clinic for Nikky and I to arrive one day because Nikky was running late.

The consultation wasn't thorough nor professional. Nikky have my X-ray printed out on a sheet of paper, yes I did say paper. Can't get any cheaper than that lol. They're supposed to have an actual X-ray film for Christ's sake . And the clinic have no computer by the way so the doctor literally talk to you and then point to those sheets of paper lmao. So my advise to anyone who wants to have FFS with Femilife is to stay away from them. You should save a few extra thousands and go with Dr. Cardenas in Guadalajara instead or a Thai surgeon if you want a better result. I'm planning to go to South Korea next year to get my revision...
