     Just wanted to share my day today since a lot of positives happened. Started with an appointment with my PCM, who I was trying to get a referral for my endo appointment in Jan. I started the appointment pretending I just wanted to get my thyroid checked and check for diabetes. He wasn't buying it and I eventually told him that I was transgendered and it went well considering he's a Major in the army. He explained he doesn't know anything about transgenders, but that seeing an endo would make sense if I wanted hormones and gave me my referral!!
      After I got home from my appointment I started getting pretty to see my therapist. Had a great visit and got to talk about my transition plan and hormones. After I got home I spoke with my mom, who was over watching my son, and I asked her what she knew about transgenders and transsexuals. We talked about that for a bit and then I came out to her. She was very accepting and said she would be there for me!!
     That's it for today, but I was so excited I wanted to share.

So I guess I got too excited about this and made myself vulnerable. I got I call this morning from my primary and he was told Tricare would not approve his referral. Basically its not something they will pay for while on active duty. Had a lot of thoughts racing through my head after and was strongly thinking about checking in at the ER. I was so tempted to just take my whole bottle of ambien, but I just took 2 and a clonazepam to go to sleep. My mom and wife have been calming me down, but I'm just so upset right now. I'm going to have to wait to start HRT it looks like until after I'm medically discharge and I don't know how I can deal with that right now.

try to stay strong it's a minor very temporary set back. Hospitals usually have good out patient programs to help deal with crisis. I lost my job a while back and ended up in psyche ward they pulled me back

I'm sorry to hear that. I had wondered though, as I thought I'd read elsewhere that people in the forces couldn't be given HRT until discharged. Realistically, when is the soonest you can be discharged? That is the target you have to aim for. In the meantime you might see if you can be prescribed Spiro, it's a T blocker but also has a range of other applications including blood pressure so you might be able to sidestep the restriction a little. Talk to someone who can help you, please be strong, please don't do anything to hurt yourself or those who love you and who are close to you...

I was also surprised when he gave me the referral and thought everything would be going my way. So I was really crushed after, been hiding in bed most of the day. It would be great to start something but my PCM only wants to do things with actual evidence of it being needed. I tried to get him to resubmit the referral for hypo gonad ism and he told me there were no signs of it. I wish I could think of some way to get started now. As far as the discharge they won't be starting until almost February and then at a minimum it would take 90 days but more likely up to a year.
