i want to think that every rational human person is very curious and concerned about their future as such if they know what the future holds, they will definitely tailor their life to arrive at that desired destination. this is natural, but the operating word here is 'rational'. Not every person is rational. for the one that is irrational such absolute knowledge of the future might not change their today.

question:  if you knew absolute and total certainty what will happen to you after death, would it change how you're living your life today?

No, I already know what I believe happens and it does not govern my life.....
I believe we have lessons to learn the good the bad and the very ugly indeed.

We all do things wrong and a lesson is learned by us and the people our actions effect, but our souls grow with it and our knowledge is all our souls take with it.  After all we are just human and have human faults, we can all but try to be better people, but we are never going to gods on this plane.

But then again what if you knew there was nothing after death??? How horrific would the world become with no fear of retribution xxxxxx Scary great question though.
The laws of God, the laws of man, He may keep that will and can; Not I. Let God and man decree Laws for themselves and not for me; And if my ways are not as theirs Let them mind their own affairs. - A. E. Housman

You are asking us to give you an imaginative answer, why?

No, because I already live the best way I know how to.  I could be better, or I could be worse, but whatever might happen after I'm dead would hopefully reflect how I already live. I do put some effort into how I live.

You have to put some effort into how you live when you've been through depression, OCD, panic attacks, disassociation, and post trauma whatever syndrome.  Considering the effort it took to crawl out of that mess and to learn to walk upon the earth, I can see no benefit in living for my death.

I already know and I have not changed any thing, no reason to. Life is just a classroom you learn what you have to learn in it and don't really have the power to change much.

absolutely not!! if by finding out what happens after I died would change how I'm living my life I should have already changed it because evidentlly I wasn't living in a way I thought was right or there would be no reason to change it no matter what! so I live as best as I can and I try to deal with people in a manner I would like to be dealt with I try to temper all my actions with compassion and care.

I don't know.

Some people suggest that without the belief in god there would be no basis for morality and 'good behaviour'. But this is untrue. Knowing that there is or isn't an after-life though faith or lack of has not really changed the way people live. Both sides of that coin seem to live equally good and bad lives irrespective of belief.

So, mmm. Depends on what there is. If it is not as religious people believe then maybe some will give up their faith and therby live a different life. Some would stick to their faith in the face of proof to the contrary and so live the life they have always lived.

Oh, now talking about myself. Again, I don't know  ;D. I think if it was shown to be a heaven as described by christians, with things being as roughly described in the bible then I would probably protest against god if it was omnipotent and not benevolent. But if God was benevolent and not omnipotent then I would give it some slack. Logically to me the christian god can't be both omnipotent and benevolent. If it was shown that the Big G was not as many christians thought and was in fact more inclusive and accepting and was just basically about love I would be like 'haw haw' and carry on as I always had.

If there was Nirvana then I would think cool, but I don't think it would change anything. If there was absolutely nothing then perhaps I would be more bold and live with more abandon. If I was to go to a hell then I would be like 'bugger', time to get drunk! After awhile things would go back to normal. Maybe would make allies to turn hell around after I die.

If we became ghosts then I would put more of a show on when alone at home or in the shower....

Overall I think I would find it a comfort knowing. But I am still me, can't be anything but.

Good question!

And my answer is, yes, it would change how I am living today.
For that matter, with every new day and every new piece of
information that I am given, my life changes.
Something as profound as knowlege of what occurs after my
death would most certainly re-wire some of my core.

Hopefully for the better.
