taking baths

Hello I am almost 8 weeks post op and was wondering when you all started taking baths again after surgery.Id really love to take a relaxing bubble bath again showers are nice but just not the same. I have a water proof cushion I use in the shower (the shower has a seat built in) so I don't have to worry about sitting on the hard surface.

I'm surprised the doctor didn't give you instructions! Brassard said a bath was possible - even recommended - from the beginning, as long as it was shallow, lukewarm, and included some disinfectant (chlorhexidine). However, he said no bubble baths for at least a year, because of the risk of infection. And no very hot baths until the initial healing phase was over, which was estimated at 2 months.

my surgeon said lukewarm baths after two weeks and I went swimming lessons at 10 weeks.

from a technical point I'm inclined to think that warm bath water will be fairly germ free and keeping the legs closed will keep the new hole closed and prevent possible problems.

use the shower head to rinse the entrance after the bath just in case you are worried.

Well a week after my surgery I had a hematoma, so I went back under the knife and while under they put a hole in my bladder so I had a catheter in until two days ago. My surgeon told me no baths with the cath in, it slipped my mind when I got it taken out because I was so happy to be rid of the dreadful thing. Thanks so much for your imput ladies even with out bubbles i'm sure it will be just as relaxing.

I was actually told to take a sitzbath at about 3 weeks when the sutures were largely dissolved because I had a yeast infection.  For the first 20 minutes it was soak and use mild soap and water for the whole area and clean myself with a very soft wash cloth. (It gave me my first detailed physical exam of myself, I had been afraid to before.)  I could drain the tub, and go ahead for a body soak of no more than another 15 minutes in warm, but not hot water.  My tub is too short for my legs to stretch out, but I could get my knees in the air and get them to take weight off the sore spots.  Made life nice.

I was warned against hot tubs with massage jets until 6 months plus.

For drying off, I got told to use a hair dryer on low or cool setting on my vaginal area to help get rid of the yeasty beasties.
