Worked retail over the summer in the many souvenir and clothing stores my family owns in the Mackinac Straits area. Hated life for 3 months. The pay wasn't really worth it, due to the working conditions, lack of technological assistance (no barcodes, no computerized inventory, nada,) and the rude customers. Some were OK, but I accidentally insulted one evidently and she was so angry, I tried to apologise, but just stormed out of the store, demanding a refund (which we weren't allowed to do.)

What I'd really like to work in? Architecture, but my school doesn't offer that. Or maybe I could be a critic for Skytrax. But I'm going with psychology. A brain doctor, so I don't have to deal with the blood and guts that the rest of the medical profession does.
Hey, you've reached Lauren's signature! If you have any questions, want to talk, or just need a shoulder to cry on, leave me a message, and I'll get back to you.

Nope, I have a mentor who was sheriff before her transition and is now a parole officer.

You found a rare mentor then! Ive been thinking about switching to PD but I think I should wait until i transition first.

I am a computer support technician, working online from home...
Probably one of the best jobs you could have during transition. :)

If you find yourself near the Augusta/Aiken/Charleston area searching for a position look me up. I still have friends and family here working for the local PD and Jails.

And should any of you work in the medical field and hear of a need for an Epic analyst let me know please. Especially if you live someplace warm and sunny  :D

I won't say WHERE I work, but I will say WHAT I do. :D

I've been a hospital based radiologic technologist for 20+ years.

Freelance video content creator/editor, and independent photojournalist.  So the "where" is usually my home studio :)

Speaking of which, back to work.  Deadline, meet procrastination.  Ugh.

hmm I guess I'm the odd ball.  I work in law enforcement as a Corrections Officer in a all male prison.  :police:  I'm kind of curious on how all the rapists and murders will handle my change... :o   lol
I worked a three year stint in our D.O.C. system. If you have their respect now it will only get better because of the fortitude it takes to transition. Remember, they greatly value bravery and courage. You should be OK. If their are new knuckle heads who try to bother you the unit heavies will take care of that for you as long as you have treated them with respect and dignity in the past, which I bet you have. :)

To be honest, I truly had no idea how inmates would act. I think your right! Most of them completely operate on the respect, courage, and self struggle mentality.  I've always did my best to keep my word on helping them and only layed down the law to the butt-head critters. Its relieving to finally get someone's experience on transitioning in the DOC.   :police: Because there is next to nothing that I have found.

I'm shocked how many of us are in IT/Tech.

Programmers, Designers, Developers, Freelancers, etc. Surely there's some sort of reason for that?
  •

Alaia

Also in IT.

Support Engineer for enterprise storage appliances.

Last 3 gigs:

Self-employed IT Support, working from home.
Public High School Vocational Instructor.
Improv Actor.

Acting was the most fun.  Teaching was the most rewarding.

Looking for a career change though.  I really don't want to be fixing computers for people anymore.  Not sure where I'm heading next.

(I have also worked as an Actuarial Technician, an Archaeologist, a Numismatist, a Pizza-Deliverer, a Mall Cop, a Bookstore Co-Owner, a Video Editor & a Ladies Shoe Salesman.  Life has been interesting  :D )

I selected "Other" ... it seemed to fit (as always).
