I think those studies are based on every kind of surgery. People say don't have surgery on a Monday because the surgeons are hungover and not to have it on a Friday because all they are thinking about it getting drunk. I think if it's a good surgeon you won't have an issue on any day. And it's just top surgery, they aren't doing something as major as open heart surgery. I had mine on a Monday and it looks great. Plus I had a top surgeon Medalie do it.

I think it is somewhat logical, a person gets more tired as the week goes on.  Of course, not all surgeons perform surgery every day of the week.  Garramone only does it twice (sometimes 3 times), per week.  There are too many variables for there to be a way to know if your personal surgeon will be tired on your day of the surgery.  Maybe on Wednesday nights your surgeon stays up all night playing poker with the guys, so he is a crappy surgeon every Thursday.  Since he is tired when he gets home on Thursday, he goes to bed early.  Subsequently, he is extra rested before your surgery on Friday!  There really is no way to know.

I personally would just keep the date.  But, if it is really in your head there is no downside to asking to change the date.  You will already feel some anxiety about your surgery on that day, no need to add to it.

I agree with my highly logical and intelligent clone. :) I think the sample here is a little small to tell anything at all. The no. of complications for top surgery are kind of low anyway (all surgeons 5%). Most of the complications are minor, hematomas that can be treated easily, mild infections and so on. The worst one I know of is someone who rejected the sutures, but it has nothing to do with the surgeon.

I believe the articles weren't implying the surgeons surgical ability varies based on day... rather, the fous was on surgical complications, most of which arise after surgery (first 48 hours being key). Something about limited resources over the weekend and fewer aftercare options... should I have surgery on Friday and have complications, it might be harder to get in touch with the surgeon as the office is closed.

Additionally Rockmore only performs surgeries on Tuesdays and Fridays...I have great faith in his surgical abilities. My concern is more with my healing capabilities. I have had many issues with oral surgery, those issues often exacerbated by lack of weekend resources and temporary weekend fixes which were only meant to pacify complications until the actual surgeon returned on Monday.
A good surgeon will give you a number to call on the weekend, some even give out their personal number.

I hear what you are saying, chipper.  It sounds like switching it to a Tuesday will give you peace of mind.  I'd do it.

I don't really understand the logic of a study like this, but so far no complications and I was in over the weekend.  My surgeon was contactable through the hospital and I was able to contact them at any time after I went home on the Sunday.

Well, assuming Chipper lives in the U.S., he will be on same day during.  If he has complications the next day, he won't be able to see his surgeon until Monday.  I can see where I would like my surgeon to be available to see me face to face the day after surgery if I had complications.

Go with the friday then. If you are in good health I doubt you will have issues. You will be so drugged up on pain meds the first couple days it won't matter. I forget exactly what the nurse said but it's after the 3rd day that you really start to feel it.
