Things here can get tough between two sides, I remembered hearing this on the news back in November and thought I'd share.

From the article:

Quote"The couple quibble over fiscal issues; he is a fiscal conservative, she is more lenient in that respect. A stay-at-home mother who volunteers at George J. Mitchell School, where two of their children are enrolled, Jennifer, 36, says more money should be spent on education.

"David, 32, a lead solution architect for Oxford Networks who works 50 or 60 hours a week, supports education but says there are creative ways to keep costs down, such as through volunteerism."

He's not getting the job done at home it appears.....  ;)

The key to getting along with people that you don't agree with in politics is to be respectful, talk about what you know and ONLY what you know or can back up with facts that are verifiable by both parties, and believing that both sides have something of value to add to the conversation as well as their good intent.

The reason political discussion devolves so quickly here and in other places is that people want to assume harmful intent (which is ridiculous and against the basic nature of human psychology) or they take a combative stance on everything and treat it like a battle which must be 'won'... which is also ridiculous and wholly arrogant.

The couples like this who disagree on matters political can only work because they know that the other person is a good and loving person, regardless of possible flaws in their ideals.

That's key for some people but not everyone.

You see political discussions here as devolving quickly. I see it the opposite, I think there are some excellent passionate discussions. It's a shame some can't deal with it and begin fussing to get them shut down instead of just not participating.

Politics isn't for everyone, people who can't discuss it without having it ruin their day... shouldn't.

If somebody contests someone else's conjecture, they're being fussy?

On topic:

I can get along with fiscal conservatives as long as they don't bring up politics. If that ever happens, I'll argue the subject.  I can't be like that with social conservatives, though. I wouldn't be able to be more than acquainted with them.

I was only referring to people who allow it to ruin their day and try and get the discussion stopped. I have no problem with fuss... fuss away!  ;)

I can get along with fiscal liberals that preach spending their money and not mine... not many.
