Does "the letter" have to be in your state of residence?

I go to school in Georgia (Savannah, to be exact) but my residence is in Florida (where my license is issued). If I were to find a gender therapist in Georgia or South Carolina and they were to write the letter needed to change my license's gender in Florida, would that be a problem because it crosses state lines?

Or does a Florida have to write the letter for a Florida license?

I only have one doctor in mind so far (in Florida, who does Skype, and lives near my parent's house), but there's the possibility that he might now work, and I would need one closer to where I am.

Any help would be wonderful, and the Florida DMV information document #047-2010 didn't seem to clear this issue up.

I don't think the state of your therapist is an issue.

As far as I know the letter has to be from a state licensed therapist and made recently (1 year "expiration"). That's about it.

you could always exploit the loophole and just get a new one with the right gender on it since the state databases are not linked.  Easily did that a number of years ago when i moved across country and never got anything from it. All I did was just scratch out a line on the old ID along where the gender marker was like I had to use it to unlatch something and it worked without question! I recieved my new license with my obviously correct gender on it and never had a problem from it. (of course its been longer than the statute of limitations on such loopholes so i can talk about it now )

the laws do not specify whether it has to be from a licencee in that state, or any state in the USA (which i would think it would be the latter). Either way, if you are now a legal resident of the state, you should be able to access the resources of that state, too.

why would you need a letter from a therapist to change your license? i thought that only applied to changing gender on your birth certificate and to get hrt and surgery. changing your license you should only need a name change document from your current county of residence, then you could always exploit the loophole and just get a new one with the right gender on it since the state databases are not linked. either way, if you are now a legal resident of the state, you should be able to access the resources of that state, too.

Unfortunately in the state of Florida, you have to have an official letter from a licensed doctor stating that you are undergoing transition to change the gender on your license.  It's a pretty simple process, though.

I just wanted to make sure that if I went to a doctor in Atlanta or something the letter would still be valid in Florida.

I updated my last post, my technique does work for those crossing borders. and I live in FL too... but then again, I come from a time when we trans folk had to be creative to be stealth.
