More of a non-experience. I called her office, ostensibly to ask questions about SRS with her, but really more to feel out the personality and the responsiveness of the place.

The lady that spoke with me refused to answer any questions. "We do that in an in-person consultation. We can fit you in but it will be five months from now."

I dropped them from contention.

However, there are members here who've had very good experiences. The member called JennX wrote and entire account of her surgery with McGinn.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

She is a great person.

I had the pleasure to meet her in 2005 when she was doing her surgical residency at The Transgender Center in Philidelphia.

She was one of the doctors that did my BA.

She was second on my short list of GRS doctors.

I know there are girls here who have had there GCS done with Dr McGinn and are happy with the outcome.

Hope it helps some

A good first hand account is youtube user "debutantebrawl" She does has a playlist setup for her time with Dr.McGinn and she explains alot of the process she goes thru and gives you a real sense of how it is to go for her.

Edit:Spelling

I had read a review on her, that was posted here, that ended up taking her off my short list of doctors. Basically the short version of it is if you have any complications or infections that.arise after you leave the hospital, your basically on your own and you WILL be blamed for it by her and her staff, even if you follow the aftercare instructions to a t.

I don't remember where to find that thread on here, but if you google her or her center with the keyword "reviews" after it, and scroll thru there will be a couple of threads about her sourced in your search....some good some bad.

Personally i would suggest paying the extra money and going to Montreal.

I have no personal experience, but there are only three surgeons on my list:  McGinn, Brassard and Bowers.

I took her off of my list because she has a BMI limit, regardless of health or other factors. (And BMI can be very misleading, depending on things like muscle density.) I had a letter from my GP stating that I was in excellent health for surgery and all my lab values were fantastic, but because the numbers didn't add up she wouldn't have taken me, and I wasn't about to starve myself (and make myself a worse/less healthy candidate!) purely for the sake of satisfying a statistic.

Brassard had no such restrictions, and as it happens I had a terrific outcome, weight be damned.

That's another reason she is off my list. If i were to meet her BMI requirements i would have to get well below my doctorssuggested weight of 160lbs when i am living as a female, and dangerously below the 180 he suggests for me as a male.

Let's face it BMI is totally unreliable and should be done away with.

Kariann : Obviously I totally agree with you. :) It's especially ridiculous when a doctor who knows you has said that weight would be dangerously low!

She is on my short list as well. I have mixed feelings about the BMI requirement. In one way it motivates me to lose the weight I need to do but on the other hand what it's difficult or even unhealthy? I haven't been that light since high school...and that's been 30 years!

She performed my SRS and did an exceptional job. I am very pleased. If you want to know any specifics, just ask.

As far as BMI goes, from a medical perspective, it is the best measure to determine in many cases (not all) the overall health and level of fitness of a person. There are exceptions, but more often than not it's pretty much on the money. Another slightly more accurate measure is body fat %. McGinn is not the only SRS surgeon with a BMI limit/restrictions, Bowers has one as well.
