Hello all,
I wanted to share some stumbled upon information I discovered about changing your driver's license gender marker. As many of you know, the passport gender marker change is a relatively simple paperwork process and doesn't require SRS in the US. I changed mine a few months ago. Recently, I went to get a new driver's license because I lost my wallet. My state "requires SRS" to change gender marker. I have had top surgery, but did not show the papers needed to change my marker. Instead, I calmly and confidently approached the DMV desk with my "Male" passport and "Male" driver's license paperwork filled out. And when she printed out my driver's license with an "F", I said CALMLY AND CONFIDENTLY, "Oh Hey, there's an F on this." She freaked out and said ,"HUUUH?" Looked at my M on my passport then said, "I'm so sorry sir, I have no idea how this happened."She printed out a new one with an M on it and I walked away. She said "as long as it matches the passport, that's all I need." No big deal whatsoever.
Of course, I have been on T for 2 years and I have an almost full beard, so I know this may only work for those of us that pass 100% 24/7, but I definitely think it's definitely worth a shot for those who don't have the appropriate top surgery or SRS paperwork in their state. If it doesn't work, I'm sure you could calmly say that you thought a passport with the proper gender marker was enough to warrant a gender change on the license.
A name change is a must, of course, and I think it would be easier if you "lost"/lost your license, rather than turning the F one in to them for a new one.
Just thought I would share this with others who may not be able to afford the appropriate paperwork, for whatever reason.
Just remember that confidence and calmness are the keys here- they will get you far in life, from my experience.
Also please share widely and if someone wants to put this in the MTF forum, that would be cool- because it may work for them as well.\
Good luck and heads up,
