Okay...I know I'm not the only girl here with a big head who needs a wig. Any ideas where to go? I measure 24.5" which is larger than a large. Fairywigs.com has some nice wigs that are custom made but I'm not sold on them.

Also, the hormones are making my butt bigger but not doing much for the hips. Do you all wear hip pads of some kind? If so, what do you do?

Thanks!

Jane

Hi Jane, I am exactly in your same situation on both accounts. I am still looking for an answer on the wig, but as far as the hips go, I am going to try reshape my body through exercise. I am doing some weight training to add muscle to my hips. Hopefully, when the estrogen kicks in, it will put a layer of fat on top of that. I am working on trying to get my waist a lot smaller, so the hips will look larger in comparison. I have only been on this program for about a week. I will be glad to share the results in a few months.

Take Care,

April

Thanks! Any particular exercises? I really need to get into a routine.

Here's a few good wig links, several feature wigs for girls with big heads. It's not surprising that the sales associates have a lot of experience with TS folks and are always very polite and helpful.

Jane, I started by studying the following video:

(Body Feminization Exercises for the Transsexual). I have found gym weight equipment that essentially mimics the motions of several of these exercises. I am also doing a fair amount of cardio.

I checked out those sites and they have some nice wigs but their "large" is only 22" and I have a 24" head. Did you get a large? What is your circumference measurement? I'm wondering if there is any "fudge" on wig size or if I need to get a custom made wig.

I'd also recommend spending time learning about how to dress for your body type.  This is a very normal thing for cis-women.  Being trans puts a whole new spin on how to dress for a "boyish figure."  And fortunately there are tons of resources online that will help steer you towards styles that will accentuate the parts you want, and draw attention away from small hips.

That's a good reminder. I am apple shaped and fortunately, some of the looks I like (wrap dress, empire waist) work well with my shape. I also heard pencil skirts would be a good choice.

I'm kind of obsessed with pencil skirts right now.  I can't wait to wear them to work!   :)

I think they are sharp, sexy, and professional looking. A killer combination.

She's got a really cool series of posts where she packs for a business trip or vacation and then shows how to squeeze dozens of outfits from just a few pieces.  I'm in full research mode right now, trying to figure out how women put outfits together.  And so this series is super helpful.  It also helps that her sense of style is exactly what I like...lots of pencil skirts!!   :)

Honestly, for the hips I would just recommend dressing around the issue. Think tunics, peplum, fit & flare  :)
