Minecraft server

I am considering running a protected Minecraft server where you would be free to be yourselves.  The current thinking is that all forum users would be automatically whitelisted for it.

Subscribers would be given a rank which would grant them one or more additional abilities (fly, repair command, heal, etc.) 

So the question is, would something of this nature be of interest to you.  IF you do not currently subscribe would this encourage you to do so.

Not in my case. Minecraft already made my life too miserable. Plus giving powers would break the balance in survival mode.

Depends, it'd be quite entertaining to get my craft on again (it's been awhile, but at one point I was hosting a server for me and friends - sometimes spending 8 hours on there!)

I'm a tad bored on vanilla Minecraft though, and generally only play it modded nowadays.  Would it be vanilla or something a bit more interesting via the Technic launcher?

I think it would be interesting and it would definitely be fun for people who prefer to communicate with their creative side, but I also think the idea of spreading abilities around different ranks would not work out very well. In community based games, extra powers for certain players tend to break the atmosphere for many, cheapen the experience for some, and can also encourage cliques or player worship (for favors, etc.). I think a better solution for subscribers would be to give them extra items in order to ease their workload in the game, but not extra abilities that set them apart from the mortality of other players.

Oh, I know. I still think subscribers should be supported in some way; to me, items seemed like a good way to do that as they're obtainable by everyone but do require investment.

Just for that, I think I will try minecraft. My son lives there, even built me a tree house.

Honestly, it should be reserved for GM's. Flying makes you invincible to mob attacks, you can build structures fairly easier...

My recommendation? Montly stashes for the subscribes. Give them several stacks of hard to obtain materiales dependind on the type of subscription. Obsidian, Diamonds, gold, glowstone, or protected areas where they could build without other persons disturbing their works (like terrain in possesion). They still will be like demigods with diamond tools and armor, but at least they will behave the same as standard players.

Also, giving capes for the subscriber to signify the rank.

I would love a minecraft server where I can feel safe from bigoted attitudes. I've played on a few servers before, but in the end I went back to single player because I got tired of what I would see in the chat.

As for donation perks, many servers have item kits for donators. Like doing "/kit" to receive diamond tools and a stack of food, things like that. Or like Apple Sprout said, easy access to materials.
