So I'm seriously considering writing my parents  a letter asking them to let me have therapy :) I'm completely at a loss as to what should be put into the letter or what should be left out ??? In order to completely understand my situation though it's important to know that i have attempted to come out to them in a letter last year but they didn't believe me and told me it was just hormones, every teen goes through this type of stuff. I would love to hear any suggestions or tips you might have in formulating my letter :)
Love,
Kayla

I think if possible it would be a lot better to have a counselor from you school contact them for you to get counseling given the fact you've already tried that approach talking or writing to them and there might be a deeper problem they have with you acknowledging why your asking them for therapy. It would probably be better to have a counselor intervene , but I don't know it's just an opinion

Sometimes therapy is necessary not because you have direct health issues, but because your living situation requires support for dealing with unreasonable others. There I said it. Therapy isn't just for "fixing" yourself. They may not be able to cope with your needs or their own misunderstanding.  But you do need support.
Do you have a local support center for teens? They may be able to assist in finding the therapy you need without your parents interfering.

Do you have a planned parenthood there where you live? If so they have been know to help in therapy and ones personal mental health needs. Or as suggested talking to a school counselor.

Some larger citys also have youth centers for LGBTQ and a good place to check out.

I wish you luck. I wish society was more understanding in our mental health over there fears of what others might think.

Hang in there

Thank you all for the answers so far! I don't know what  I would do without this site and the wonderful people on here. I don't know if we have a youth center tbunny.

Kayla, we have a nice LGBT Center here that works with a youth coalition across the street. Because my daughter is under 24, they have referred us to the youth center. even though we have indurance, we need a few referrals and guidance. They are a safe space too. I hope you have one nearby. Check with a local LGBT center... otherwise keep coming back here. I'm dure we can help you find the support you deserve.

Some things you could include in your letter:

* You've come to the conclusion that you're transgender.
* Many transgender people know it at a young age.
* Transgender isn't something we choose. It's something we're born with.
* Transgender is serious. Depression, anxiety and suicide are common among people who don't treat it.
* No one has ever found a way to make it go away.
* Transition to live as one's internal gender has been shown to be a successful treatment.

Good luck Kayla. Please let us know how it goes.
