It's nice to finally be able to say hello to everyone, I've been lurking around on this site for about a month and finally got the courage to register.
I'm not quite sure where to start, so I'll go with why I was drawn to this community...
I am currently 23 and have felt like I should have been born a female since at least the eighth grade which is when I started having dreams as a female. I pretty much disregarded the feeling until a little over a year ago when I started to look into transitioning. At first I only knew about the surgical options and somehow didn't read anything about hormone therapy. I stopped looking into transition then because I didn't want to just look female by surgery, I wanted to feel female which at the time I thought was impossible.
Flash forward to one month ago when I learned about HRT and began to comb every corner of the web especially this community. This sort of a transition is what I really want so now I am looking for a therapist to take the next step.
I have already told my family who are all supportive (although a few are questioning my certainty) and a close friend.
Anyway. Enough of the serious. I am an engineer (electrical and mechanical) and I work in the renewable energies field. I have been eating vegan for over 5 years now, and I do not smoke or drink. I am caffeine free since August 2013!
I love sci-fi/fantasy books, videogames (mostly RPGs) and exploring trails in the forest.
I live just north of San Francisco, CA although I am in Hawaii for a month on business right now.
I haven't picked a new name yet and don't intend to until I begin to transition. I guess xponentialshift, expon, or shift will work for now :) it has been a consistent alias in videogames since I started college.
That's it for now. Thank you all for creating this community that I can be a part of!

Hey there xponentialshift!  Glad to have you here.   :D

It is not that unusual to develop a sense of gender dysphoria as puberty kicks in.  It was that way with me, around seventh grade.

What's more, it is very common for MtF or MtA identified individuals to have careers in the sciences or engineering.  I think that would make a fascinating study.

Nice to meet you.

The main things to remember in life are Love, Kindness, Understanding and Respect - Always make forward progress

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

(Sorry if this is the third copy of this post. The "quick reply" option doesn't seem to be working for me.)

I have to agree with you on the puberty thing Jamie. Before puberty my parents never set any gender boundaries around me so I never had a reason to question my gender one way or the other. It was all the same to me until puberty hit along with gym class locker rooms and the peer pressure to conform to my gender.
