Lizzie, I liked your avatar so much, I had to make one of my own.

Thanks. I love Charr, I only have one right now but I might another in the future. They do have a really great personal story in the beginning, I'd like to see the others lines as well.

I think I'm going to give GW1 a quick revisit later today. Currently installing on my computer. I wonder how much of a community is left for that game.

Lizzie

From what I hear it's still pretty good. Can always play with heroes.

I recently went back on to GW1 to fiddle around with my 55 monk.  Spamadan still has people, but there is an overall sense of emptiness in the world, particularly in the more remote portions.  I end up finding AFK people in the boondocks, though, so there is still a community playing.  :)

GW2 UPDATE: I'm on Tarnished Coast and joined the guild "Our Sanctuary" [LGBT].  It's a great community with plenty of transgender players. I haven't braved up to joining their voice chat yet, but it's a wonderful, accepting guild.  It's big, too (~400 members).  I highly recommend it.

I might give GW2 another look soon. Right now, I've been sucked into ESO. I'm enjoying that game pretty well, but I find with any MMO that I eventually need a break. It will be nice to see if GW2 does anything for me these days. I remember the world being beautiful. From what I understand, the biggest thing that game screwed up was with the way they operated their cash store causing the game to devolve into pay to win territory.

Quote from: kate on April 20, 2014, 07:25:57 AMWorld PvP on the other hand was a disaster lol. Other guild members got a huge kick out of it, but all i seemed to be doing was running around aimlessly and getting killed. :P

WvWvW mode has seen a ton of improvements since launch.  Unfortunately, the matchmaking system is still just as bad (if not worse) than it used to be.  So, a lot of times you'll be matched against servers significantly better than yours.  So, you'll lose no matter what you do because you will be outnumbered or simply outskilled.

A lot of my desire to play the game has waned, because I spend most of my time in WvWvW mode.

I was having a debate just last week about this with some people in map chat.  Another person started a debate about it, and I agreed with them that it basically doesn't matter what we do because we will still lose.  The commander seemed to think that we just needed better coordination.  I said, it doesn't matter if we fight off a single zerg from a single tower, because it would take all of our players to do that even if they did coordinate.  Meanwhile, the server we were matched against has AT LEAST one zerg of that size on EACH of the four maps, while we can only muster a group of that size on two maps maximum, and only during our peak hours.

It doesn't matter if your guys are worth three of theirs, or four of theirs.  If you can take on four of their guys by yourself, you will still lose when you are outnumbered five to one.  The commander didn't seem to understand this.  A zerg full of bad players is still a zerg.  There comes a point where you won't have enough damage to overcome them regardless of how good your players are, simply based on the fact that they have so many that they can just stand there and autoattack you to death.

I spend some good chunks of days and weekends and weeks on GW1.....and ended up quitting right about the time 2 was released.

So give it to me straight.....how much more awesome is GW2 than GW1 was?

Guild Wars 1 is a better game.  Guild Wars 2 basically takes all of the stuff that made the first Guild Wars awesome, and then it.... removes it.  Guild Wars 2 is OK, but I don't have nearly as much fun with it as I did back in Guild Wars Factions.

The only thing Guild Wars 2 did better than the first game is the action combat, and jumping puzzles (which are actually extremely well designed, BTW).  Otherwise, GW2 took a step back from the first game in almost every conceivable way.

I'm almost thinking of going back to play GW1 again.  GW2 tends to feel very repetitive and mechanical, even moreso than other MMO games I've played.
