After reading many of the threads on these boards, i am curios to know. Why do so many of the people that visit these boards so freqently, that don't consider themselves trangendered or transsexual, spend so much time here?

i think ppl who don't consider themselves transgender or transsexual vist boards like these so much outta curiousity or because they have nothing better to do....... *shrug* that's what i would think  ;D

Are you talking about any specific part of the forums?

Most everybody that I know of except Significant Others are TS or TG.

Have you noticed many non trans posters?

Just asking,

Rebis (TG --> androgyne)

Hi Diane! I'm not TS, but do identify androgyne. From my short time here, it's been a really eye-opening experience learning about TS people and what they go through in transition. Really helped me dismiss some silly prejudices I've held towards trans people.

Well Diane!  I'm not sure of which of the two I consider myself being. I definitely Know that I'm one of the two. That's all that counts for now, In time, the rest will become clearer .
So for now I'll read and post in both forums.  ;)
Hope this helps?

P.S  I'm also here to learn more about myself by reading about other peoples experiences,Thoughts and Ideas.

I am one of those people you refer to. I am not TS or TG or an SO or Androgyne. I spend a lot of time at Susans. A couple of hours each day reading old posts. I am sorry to tell you that I don't know why. I have couple of guesses. Number 1: There is something very compelling about people who have to work so hard to make their outsides conform to their insides.

Number 2: I also knew someone who transitioned about 15 years ago. I am embarrassed to admit that I couldn't understand why someone would want to be a woman so ugly. Also, she hooked up with another woman and I wondered "Why bother?" She did tell me "It isn't about the sex." and I kind of understood. My view of her could be colored by the fact that she borrowed and stole a complete set of new clothes with the tags still on and my only set of gown up lady underwear. I don't hold this against all TSs. Since that time I have encountered a couple of MTFs that I considered more girly than myself and I really felt for their situation.

So the bottom line is that I don't know why I hang here so much. Except that I like the people very much and it is the source for the best girl talk I know.

Diane some people are very scared and have hidden things for so long that it is not easy to open up.

They may be surprised when people do not laugh at their threads and then try to help them.  Over time they may start to heal and/or make better decisions in real life.

Do you happen to know a lot of these people that come here and have no genders issues?

I started coming here because of a great friend.
I left after she passed away, but I came back initially because they do such a great job of keeping up with current events here. [I used to subscribe to PlanetOut, but I get everything here sooner, and everyone here is a font of knowledge.]

I have my own issues to be sure, as you will see posted here, but I guess that I hang around here because I enjoy it. The people are intelligent, engaging, and I have fun here. It's a nice change from many places on the net these days.

In the interim, once in a while, someone here teaches me something, and sometimes, I them.
In fact, the people here have taught me a great deal about a lot of things. Especially, what it is like to be a man or women that is neither TG or TS.  I hope that I have taught them in turn, that it is more important for people to respect the basic dignity of your humanity, than it is to chase after a gender role.

Some have touched my heart enough for me to consider them family, or friends, even though we have never met. And some like me even though I am a curmudgeon.

I don't think Susan built this site for TG or TS people. I think she built it for all of us to see how alike we all are, regardless of what shingle we hang on our door.

I send people here all the time. I'm like, "Hey! You want to know what its all about? Go to www.susans.org"  I explain as much as I can & answer their questions then refer people here to learn more on their own time.

Don't know if my blog generates any traffic but I also have links on my blog that point to the Wiki here.  Oh and I have a news reader on my blog that gets its "news" from here.  The news are the posts.

Hi Diane,

Great question, and some great answers.

I think it is a combination of all of the above, plus, I have never found a better group of people anywhere.  Folks here are open, caring, supportive, funny and loving.  Most are going, or have gone, through tremendous struggles just so they can be themselves.

You can find information about all the various flavors of TG, news of interest, and support for SO's.  If you feel alone or like there is something wrong with you, you will find friends here who have been there.  You find that you are not the only one who feels as you do.  I know I did.

And did I mention that the folks here are wonderful?

Ya put your right foot in.  You put your right foot out.  You put your right foot in and you shake it all about.  You do the Andro-gyney and you turn yourself around.  That's what it's all about.

There are also people out there who may feel embaressed of even having an interest in TG/TS people. It wasn't easy for me to tell my friends I had an interest, let alone that I thought about becoming one. I still haven't the guts to tell them the rest yet.

I agree.  For a few years when I realized I was interested, I definitely wouldn't tell anyone that I was curious about trans people.

Now, I just stand on a street corner singing it out for all the world to know.  How times have changed.

If you put a hat down do people give you money?  Or is your singing that bad?
