By bringing your ribs in do you mean permanently altering their shape?
And if so, is that safe?

I'm not trying to insult or discourage you, I'm genuinely curious.
I refuse to live in fear! Come hell or high water I will not back down! I will live my life!
But you have no life.
Ha. Even that won't stop me.

I will protect even those I hate, so long as it is right.

My understanding is that it is indeed safe...for a small amount on the lower end of the ribcage. However, the range that alot of tightlacers take it too is risky. At least, that is what a nurse told me but it doesn't really discourage or encourage me from doing it myself. I am interested in it but,I will probably be forced to make my own since I am not rich and I want one that is actually fit exactly for my body and isn't a fashion but a body shaping corset.

I wear a waist cincher 8-12 hours a day. No clue if it will have any permanent results but it definitely seems like it's forcing me to lose weight in that area and pushes fat to the breasts and butt. I'm happy with the results so far but it's only been a couple of weeks

I second this.

I have been wearing a waist cincher for a few months now and the difference is noticeable. I've not looked into full blown corsets yet, but my understanding is that they can't really permanently alter the shape of your bones once they have fused (so past the age of 21-22).

All the images you see online of people with dramatically corseted or pinched bodies are from people that have been corsetting from a young age, as you can only restrict or redirect bone growth, rather than alter it once it is finished it's growth phase (Well...without major surgery, and a collection of tools that look more at home in an auto store than a medical facility).

Other than that, all cinchers and corsets can really do is play with the soft tissue below your ribcage, organs, skin, fat and such. So if you want to lose a few inches off of your waist, that's perfectly fine and doable, but you won't be able to alter your ribcage with a corset past your development years I'm afraid.
You say "Using humor as a defence mechanism" like it's a BAD thing!

Having just turned 22 I'm now finding myself very interested in this topic. Probably too late to change bones but a cincher is a possibility.

As a medic and girl that is using them you CAN remold your lower ribs. Mine are decreasing quite a bit. It just takes a while and definitely not over night.

There are several places in Calgary who offer custom corsets. They will fit you for your specific purpose as well as materials to achieve your goals. I was planning on having a peek too. Let ne know if you're wanting to go Alyssa. I could always use some company for a trip like that :)

Also the makers have lots of ideas and info on their sites. I also know that a corset can keep being worn, so if you want to use it as a shaping undergarment you could just wear it under all your clothes. I sort of hope to do that.

Here's a few Alyssa, but I was hoping to go to Lace Embrace to have a look at the materials. I'm looking for something specific, so we'll see if they have what you're looking for too?

Thanks Jessica. Do you use a corset or just a waist cincher?
I alternate between both. Just spend the money to get quality, steel boned corsets and waist cinchers. The cheaper one's will not do the job. They will fall apart and not mold properly. Another thing cinch slowly tighter over time to maintain the shape of the garment. Too tight too early will mess them up. It will take a while, but it should be worth it in the long run. Don't go for maximum tightness out of the box and start slow. I started wearing mine a few hours a day and then extended it slowly. They will hurt if you try to wear them 8 hours a day on the first month or so. :)

Hey Alyssa! I would very much like to hit up Blame Betty for the dresses, super cute!

As for the corsets, Jessica has the right of it. I have a lot of the shapers that I have bought over time but they just don't have the hold that I wanted. We would all love to have tge stereotypical hourglass shape, but nor everyone is so lucky!

If you feel comfortable enough (we'll have a chat before this!!) to go with us (I'll still hide behind the curtain because my body makes me a bit unhappy...) we can learn together about them!

Tbh, I just love shopping flat out, so any excuse is good for me! Let me know and we can find time. I'll be heading out to Lace Embrace sometime in the last week of April, probably.
