SRS and Hypertrophic scars

Hey everybody!

I hope you all are doing well today.

I had a question regarding scarring after SRS. It's probably one of my biggest fears next to having major complications. I'm a young African-American women --we tend to scar easily/different-- and I'm worried about hypertrophic or keloids. I had breast augmentation last year and my incision sites healed horribly; They're dark, shiny, and raised. I didn't even know I had keloid tendencies before surgery. My skin has always had a tendency to scar (regardless of what I tried to prevent it). but I never had keloids. To paint a picture I scratched my leg on the corner of table once and now have a permanent 2 inch black mark that has not faded. I also have a capsular contracture which scares me even more because clearly my body doesn't handle trauma well.

I'm scared, to say the least, the same is going to happen with SRS making my result less than desirable. It's a risk I'm willing to take to move with life, I guess. 

I'm thinking of going with Dr. Chettawut and have been in touch with his people. I know every body isn't the same and people heal differently, but I'm very curious. Are there any women of color here that had SRS and experienced hypertrophic scarring? Was the result bearable? I'm just trying to get a general idea.

Sorry i am not of color but have had trouble with scars in past.

As anything the faster you can get the area to heal the better chance you have of less scar tissue.

Thing is no one can know. For me i had a fast healing that i was not expecting. I did spend a lot of my time on my healing and did everything i could to make my outcome the best it could be.

I have a few small areas that had a little issue with a early release stitch. The thing is it is at the line of my Hair so it is very hard to see. I am at 11 months post and they are still a little on the pink side.  I also seem to take years for my scars to go from pink to skin tone.

I would say work on the best after care you can and use as little ointments that you need. Keep everything clean and dry is the key. Air of the bits are also a get thing to do.

I didn't underst do you suffer from keloids or from hypertrophic scars? Keloids tend to grow and they are some kind of benign tumors. Hypertrophic scars are just elevated scars that never expand in the healthy skin.
The treatment is different. Keloids are very often impossible to treat even though laser therapy is the treatment of choice combined with steroids. The results vary. Treatment of hypertrophic scars is more certain, basically the same,with better results.
I suggest you see a dermatologist who is experienced with laser treatments and take it from there....
