Holy smokes, there but for the grace go I.
When I came out at my school last summer, a reporter tried to write a story on me but the school system pulled strings and got it killed.
At the time I said I didn't think it would national news - it's happened so many times before.
Was I wrong! Fox News, New York Daily news, and NBC all picked up this story, which is as run-of-the-mill a transition story as I've ever heard.
I'm shuddering at how close that came to being me. It could have been my name splashed across national headlines.
How is it that in 2014, a transgender person transitioning on the job is national news? Our community has done such a terrible job educating people about who we are and how we live that no one has a clue that this is commonplace.
