i'm considerably a political person and i've always been enthusiastic over getting the voting power. i turned 18 last year and got it, and the first ever election since then is coming up at the end of this month. i'd really love to vote for this party which had a change in leadership recently, and the new leader is one of my most admired politicians here. but, since ancient times our authorities have had this bright idea for making elections more convenient, that is men and women have to go in two seperate queues to vote. i still present as female and my national ID says female, so obviously i'll have to take the female queue. and no way am i going to get myself grouped with females even if voting saves my life. and that means i won't be voting this time. of course to vote or not to vote is my choice, but i'll have to explain dad why i'm not voting after being so excited about the elections and all that. also it means i'll never be able to vote until i transition completely, if it ever happens. unfair world.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Voting is very important to me, too. I can only imagine how disappointing that must have been to find out. The polling places I've went to didn't have it set up that way, fortunately. They just separated everyone into queues based on surname.

What is this place where voting is gender-segregated? Just curious.

oh everything is gender segregated here, that i won't be able to name more than two government run mixed schools within the next 5mins. i don't feel bold enough to reveal my country right now, i did once but not now. sorry but i don't have the guts. (it's the fear of being recognized, if that makes any sense)

just an update... so it was a good thing i finally decided to suck it up and go to vote. i can't let dysphoria rule my life like that. but it turns out that gender specific queues are only there in big busy polling stations in cities that they show on tv. our little polling station of our village had only one queue, actually no queue to be accurate cos there were not more than 5 people when we went there. nobody cared my androgynous appearance and i just voted and came home!

Congratulations! I'm so glad you got to vote.  It makes me crazy that some people don't exercise their right to vote.  So very many people all over the world have died fighting for their right to vote.  Hopefully, some day you and those of like mind will be able to change the policy of gender segregation in your country with your votes.

exactly. i was dreading about the queue thing because of a newspaper article i read years ago. it was about a 'woman who lives as a man' as they had put it. that person is probably ftm from what i recall, but they claimed they were living as a man cos they were molested very young which made them sacred to live as a woman. this one point stood out to me, their national ID says female and they had said they would take the female queue when voting because of that, while fully presenting as male. though i didn't know by then that i'm a transguy, i sort of related to that article and was freaked out by that statement.
anyway though i usually am excited about election results this time the excitement is ten times more :) it's great to be a part of it.

Thing is several times it doesn't make any difference if you vote or not. It always reminds me of southpark episode "Douche and Turd" when they get to vote for either giant douche or turd sandwich for their school mascot.

That said, it does not prevent me from actually voting. I just don't feal heard when I do.

Because of that I do understand why people refuse to vote.
