How old were you when you started transitioning?

I started HRT at 27.

I pretty much knew that I was trans at 15, but I was completely unaware of the effectiveness of HRT at the time. So because of that, I opted to not tell anyone about my trans desires, and to try just accepting my body how it was.

(You can thank our stupid braindead American media, who constantly perpetuates the myth that trans women's femininity is completely due to surgery, for that. I opted to not transition because I didn't want surgically-created boobs, I wanted natural ones. And I wanted soft feminine skin, and I wanted a naturally-feminine face and figure, and I didn't know that it was possible for hormones to shrink my bulky male muscles. And again, if I had known just how much of these things HRT solves, if I had known that surgery wasn't required, and that I really could have my own authentic femininity without going under the knife, I would NOT have waited so long. So yay, Youtube! Boo mainstream news. )

I felt exactly like Carrie in that I only knew the media portrayal and knew nothing about the effects (or even existence really) of HRT... At 21 I started to look into it but stopped because I thought the only options were surgery and clothes.

Now about a month ago at 23 I finally understand what I want and I have set up my first therapy appointment in just over a week!

(I have felt female since very young but
I hadn't felt the need to pursue anything until recently because throughout my childhood and high school I luckily didn't have gender boundaries placed around me.)

I started some ineffective transition once on 29, then stopped because of the ineffectiveness, then started again the same way ( ) on 30 and stopped again because of despair, and finally started it the way it should be on 32 and happy about it

I'm 26...just started HRT 4 months ago and boy does it feel good to see the changes happening

It's like the puberty I never had...as in a nice positive feels of my body changing in a good direction...rather than a creepy and unsettling one...in fact it is still a bit creepy sometimes, especially being kinda half way as I am at the moment...I'm just rambling now >.>

I do have to ask however, when you say "I am in the "custody" of a doctor at one of my city's psych departments" could you elaborate? More so I have a better understanding of why your doctor is seemingly not addressing these issues and what you mean by "custody" ? Without understand these statements fully it is hard for me to answer.

I am in his "custody" in that he is in charge of my investigation.

I've just started and I am 32 could of done it years ago since I knew about it when I was 25 but was in a different state so everything was 10 times harder since everything else was 40 mins to an hr away from me.

Well assuming you are over 18, If your doctor is ignoring your gender conflict I would say it is time to start looking for another doctor. Therapy is very important....

Came out as trans at 15, started HRT on my 16th birthday. Talk about a sweet sixteen.

Came out for the first time to my then girlfriend now wife at 19. Also told her that I wouldn't transition because my family meant more to me than being happy and I could live my life "ok". Dumb decision now since my family is "ok" with me being trans. Finally at the end of 2013 I really needed to transition because I needed to be better than ok. I was 26 at the tome. Decided to take it slow. Did therapy for 5 months before getting a letter to start hormones. Took 2 months to get an appointment with the only endo in my area that took my insurance. So I started hormones shortly after my 27th birthday.

I have know since I was 4 and it has been torture ever since until I finally admitted to myself at 42.
Opened up to my doctor 7 months ago and started hormones at 44.

Been 6 months and I'm more than halfway there now

I had plans to do it before 30, that worked well?

I started at 44 after a stuttering false start when I was 39. Better late than never I suppose
