Nicholas

Finally done with all my name change stuff and I now have Masshealth. Now I need to pick a Primary Care Physician, but I don't know of any that are trans-friendly/experienced who accept my insurance. Can anyone give me some Doctor's names, along with what health plan they work with or at least direct me to a resource that can give me this information? I would be most appreciative. Oh! And i live in central Massachusetts, if that helps at all.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

Hi Nick,

The doctor I am going to see is very trans friendly and accepts different forms of coverage. I am in rhode island though (not sure if masshealth would work here), so not sure if that is a drive your willing to make. If you want, message me and I can give you the name of the doctor so you can always call and check. You do need a referral letter first though before you can make an appointment.

Declan.

Fenway Health in Boston accepts it as well and has informed consent. They specialize in LGBT care. That's where I go.

If you live in Massachusetts you're extremely lucky to have Fenway Health as an option. There is NOT one doctor there who is not 100% cool with you being who you are.

I would not go anywhere else and yes they definitely accept Masshealth and they do shots there (on my plan zero co-pay) so I pay ZERO for Testosterone. I do not like to self inject.

Fenway has a few locations. The main one is on Boylston St. I go to the South End location. I have a lot of non- gender related health problems & my Doctor is Dr. Sarah Shelby... she is awesome at making sure I am taken care of.  She is super nice and professional, but more importantly in a doctor, she is very thorough!!!! No God like complex or anything.

They are also directly affiliated with Beth Israel and having lived in Boston almost my entire life, that is my favorite hospital. So when I get anything done at B.I. my Fenway Doctor can just see it (meaning no records transfers needed). And if I need a referral or an xray she just sends it though the computer and no waiting for me. Plus they are close together. So if she think I need an MRI or xray, she sends the request in, I walk there, and they just take me.

Besides the politics of Massachusetts, the only thing I like about this state is Fenway. I moved to Florida for a while & flew back just to go to Fenway.

You have a great name BTW

Nesteby out of Baystate accepts MassHealth and is my primary care provider and prescriber. They operate via informed consent.

The Stonewall Center has a great resource for western Massachusetts found here:

I go to Nesteby too. She's awesome. I was really nervous when I started this and she made everything so easy and is really great about making people feel comfortable. I live in Western Mass right now so going to Springfield is convenient for me but even if I moved back out East like I'm trying to I would still go to her because she's the best.
