Sizing help!

So I want to buy some clothes online, but in the past I've usually come across some issue with sizing somewhere along the line.
I am a tall, and very skinny person. I do have broad shoulders, although they are very skinny too.
So, for dresses, should I go for a medium, or a small? It'll be from H&M. I don't think the length changes, but naturally I don't have a feminine bust and hip size, which is making me think small, but my shoulders make me want to say medium...
What do I do!!

First off relax. I panicked the same way before and that just won't do.

Okay the Do's and Don'ts:

Do:
Prepare yourself for a little trial and error.
Budget extra money for shipping returns.
Check out unisex items like Vans shoes that have sizes for both men and women on the same product.
Study women who share the same fashion as you for what they wear. So if you are both preppy then see what she wears. What works and what doesn't. After all even cis girls make horrible fashion mistakes.

Buy panties. Not like lacy naughtiness but try something cute and cheap so that you can get a size. Plus this is one item that you can wear and no one will know the difference except you. Especially dark colored boy shorts and the like. People just think that you are wearing normal not whitey tighty undies if they do catch a glimpse.


Don't:
Buy a bra just yet unless you feel ready to wear one.
Buy into a new fashion look without help. This is like growing up all over again so if you didn't start out in cocktail dresses and yoga pants then I wouldn't just up and start now. Work up to those things and start out with a fem version of yourself when you were younger. For me skinny or boot cut jeans and girly rock Tshirt look awesome.
Heels. Just start with low heels or girly tennis shoes. High heels and platforms, unless you have practice already, just draw attention to yourself.


Let's call that the starter. JC Penny's has a big and tall section for girls like you and I. I'm 6'2" with freakishly long arms and legs. I have to buy the extra tall sizes. And sadly those fit me better than men's clothing ever did. American Eagle has some decent tall girl jeans in the $20 range.

well if you have broad shoulders, do you also have a large ribcage? Cause h&m runs small thru the bust and chest and the fit might be off if so. I would get a medium, or u could buy both sizes and return one.

But ultimately you may just have to look elsewhere with tall sizes, depends on where your natural waist is, that is what would really ruin the fit.
