Hey everybody,
So I been thinking a lot about what my female name is going to be and am very much interested in opinion really I guess or input in general. Its been on my mind way before I even came out but now with hormones only 7 weeks away (omg yes so excited about that still!) it's been one of the number one things on my mind. Now I absolutely am terrible with naming things for the most part, I can't even name a pet lol. I would preferably like a name with some kind of meaning to me even if it's just something small. I also have been trying to have some respect for my mom with it too trying my best to keep her involved even though I know the final descision of course is still my own. I know I need or should be happy with it but at the same time I feel like most don't get a say in there name so why should I or something like that lol.

I have a few names I've come up with on my own somewhat on the table but still really nothing I'm really happy with or set in. My mom came up with her suggestion way faster than I ever would have expected lol. She is in love with Jaime Drew for first and middle name. She told me when I was born she really wanted to name me James after my dad's father who passed when he was very young but didn't because my dad's brother was James the second and wanted to have his son as the third. Alas my uncle only had two daughters and the legacy ended there. Drew is just a simple change of my current middle name being Andrew. So this does pretty cover the two points i would like to have with my descision being meaningful and respecting my mother but I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. What do you all think or how did you come up with your own? Sorry for rambling on for so long I feel like I always do that without even trying lol.

What defines your personality and who you are?
Do you like short, long, multisyllabic or monosyllabic names?
Any preference for culture/country/religion?

Would you like to change your initials as well?

These are the factors in my decision, and I'm 99% sure I'm keeping what I chose when it's time to do the name change.

I kept my initials meaning I kept my last name and the first letter.

I'm obviously not experienced like others here but I am really happy with my new name.

The only bad thing is that my kids pediatrician's nurse practitioner has the same name, oh well.

Thanks for your input Kate! I'm definitely keeping my last name no questions ever about that. As far as first name go though I don't think I like any names that start with p really lol. For now I really think in leaning towards my moms pick, Jaime. I think it's cute for sure which I like, has meaning which I'm looking for and it could potentially be helpful during any awkward times that may occur through transition being one of the names that can be for either sex. Also in terms of your own name and that nurse forget that who cares lol but I do feel you on that too it's hard to pick a name that you or someone you know doesn't associate with someone.

I would only make my decision based on someone else's name if it was a family member. For example I will not name myself the same as my wife or daughters. Probably not even my mom...

But I love the name I chose with help here (see my thread). I love it and I have a new signature too, that I absolutely adore. I have never ever felt so happy about a name! I always hated my name, now I get to LOVE it.

And I think you should too. Pick a name that you will love. Your mom's opinion is nice but if you don't like it, don't stick with something you'll regret.

I would start with popular names in your birth year or around your birth year or at least around that decade. Social Security and baby naming sites have those. Then try on a few and see how they sound and how you'd sign them. If you have cultural considerations too (eg. Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Eastern European etc) take that into account, but by no means think you're stuck with a particular name. I am of Indian extraction but many in my family have had Christian names. I don't like how some Hindi names sound although some are absolutely beautiful, and I named my daughters with Hindi names along with Christian names.

Good luck! I wish you all the best in choosing. It's hard!
