My Introduction

Hi Everyone,
I'm a 56 year old MTF who has been on DIY hormones and anti-androgen treatment for over five years. I don't recommend this but I had to due to family pressures and the fact that I had no health insurance. I went to graduate school in Biological Chemistry at a medical school so I know a bit about what is doing. I just saw a therapist last week and he indicated that he could write the hormone reference letter for me soon. I also attended my first TS group last weekend and it was like I finally was at home with like minded people.
I am married and have a college age daughter who I am completely "bust my buttons" proud of.
I wish I could say everything is peachy for me but sadly it isn't. My SO is only so accepting of my transition and basically the attitude is to try to keep a lid on everything. This is becoming harder and harder to handle. I dearly love this woman and she is my soul mate but on the idea that she is married to a woman, she gets off the bus. My daughter sort of knows but she prefers to go along with the "lets pretend it isn't happening" atmosphere in the house.

I hope that I can participate here as much as I have in the crossdressing forums that I am also a member.
This forum looks to be wonderful resource and I am excited to be a member.

I am glad your in the works of getting a valid prescription, DIY is not supported here due to the dangers of this.

Ditto on the DIY stuff - even licensed MD's hesitate to prescribe because of the possible dangers.  I'm happy you've decided to go "legit."

   I'm happy to hear that you understand yourself. It's too bad your SO hasn't adjusted. There is no way around the tough parts of a transition, I guess. But I think it works out for everyone.

Hi Maggie, Pleased to meet you - I hope you will find interacting with others here on Susan's as helpful as I have. Your domestic situation is similar to my own - my SO is understanding to a point, but I see the hurt in her eyes whenever I bring up the subject of my GID. You have to see it from your SO's point of view - she just wants you to be the person she thought you were. Unfortunately, once the genie's out of the bottle it won't go back and it's a difficult thing to deal with.
I hope that others on here may be able to give you encouragement and perhaps better and more experienced advice than I can give  and wish you luck for the future.

I want to clear any misunderstanding so we get off on the right footing.

I had to do the DIY out of desperation and severely restricted finances and a tense family situation. I would not ever recommend or advise anyone to follow my path. I have a unique background that allowed me to get away with it and my lab tests show it worked. It was a time when I was severely depressed and began drinking to the point of lost time. With no one to help me and no way to see a professional, I took the only positive solution I could and it allowed me to stop drinking completely. One of the tragedies of our condition is the large amount money it takes to treat it. Unfortunately, TG does not happen only to the wealthy.

I will not speak of my methods or tell anyone here how I did it.

I told my story so everyone would know about me and that my posts are better understood.

I'm so glad you made it here from the other list!  I'm sure you'll find there are a lot of supportive people here and a wealth of information.

Hey!  Everyone!  Maggie is a friend of mine and very much in need of support and understanding.  Her issues of DIY hormones are behind her and is now making progress on therapy and getting out.

Hiya Maggie................I'm another 56 yr old do it yourselfer, although I found a wonderful doctor and therapist that specialize in gid and cross gender hormone treatment, after I had transitioned.  Like you, My education is in biology, and chemistry.  One thing I would strongly suggest, is that you try to strongly discourage others from d.i.y. transitioning.  It's too easy these days for anyone to get hormones and antiandrogens, and so many desperate people who would throw caution to the wind and possible make a lethal error.
