Bank Locked Me Out Of My Account (name doesn't match)

Just venting.

Stopped to get some cash to pay my electrologist tomorrow, and had to show my ID for the first time since I changed my name (new Teller).  When the names didn't match up they locked me out of the account, and now the only way to get money is to ask JoAnn to withdraw it.  Not a good situation when we're in the middle of our separation, but she said she'd get me some cash tomorrow morning.  Hope so.

I have $100 dollars and nearly $200 in costs during the next two days.  Not even thinking about next week yet.  Can't force JoAnn to give me more than she feels I'm going to need, so it seems like I'm begging.  This f's up my search for an apartment, my electrolysis, and my ability to go out anywhere with the few close friends I have left.  Oh wow, I'm f'd.

Brick and mortar are waiting to be turned into a wall in the yard, and that should take my mind off this for a short time.  Bye.

Did you talk with a bank manager?  It would seem that with your court paperwork and a copy of your social security card things could be resolved.

When I changed my name my bank listed my old name as an AKA in case I had to deal with any transactions under my old name.

I would have talked to a manager, and then corporate. Perhaps the ACLU would have some advice. Intentional or not, this cries discrimination. Do they lock accounts when a woman takes her husband's name?

Yeah, the current manager was there and he called their main office. I gave him the court order but I don't have my new SS card yet.  I'll do that tomorrow.

Problem stems from the account being assigned to the Investment, Will, and Living Trust that has JoAnn and I as partners.  I'm still listed under my old name in all those documents and they legally can't dispense money from that account unless my current name is on the trust.  That means going to a lawyer to change the Trust, then amending and recording every document we have concerning our properties.  WE AREN'T RICH BY ANY MEANS, but JoAnn was able to see some great value in old houses so we bought them for next to nothing.  This bank thing means redoing all the deeds and having them recorded, but it also may require another court appearance that we were trying to avoid until we decide to divorce.  I'd rather just start a new account in my name and have my SS check deposited into it each month.  That should cover all my monthly expenses for transition and living.

Anyway, for my own peace of mind I'm leaving for a quite a while, and may return in a few months.  I'm not really sure what's in my future, but whatever I'm doing, and wherever it may take me, I'm going to do it as the authentic Lady Katherine.  Or maybe I should be Princess Katherine.  ;D

Take care girls.  Peace, love, and a warm hug from a girl who's found herself.  K

Banks have a habit of misinterpreting Trusts.  I do trusts for one lawyer, we have done a couple thousand over the years.  We have had to fight it out several times over Successor Trustees.

You shouldn't have to amend the trust, your court order for name change should be enough, but good luck.

You can take the bank account out of the trust.
