I'm trying to train my voice so that it sounds appropriate, and the strain that I put on my voice when trying to raise my pitch caused me to choke. Is that a normal part of voice training? Normally my throat stings when I'm done, but I just gargle some salt water and the pain numbs out, so I figured it wasn't a problem. But I also realize that I may be doing something wrong. Raising my pitch is generally painful because I can barely breath when I'm doing it, it hurts my throat, and I can feel my blood vessels in my head straining (I'm always afraid I'm going to have an aneurism or something). But I'm not sure how I can raise my pitch otherwise, I mean it's supposed to be a strain, since you're actually raising the frequency of your voice and therefore the frequency of the vibrations produced by your vocal cords, right?
I just want to check to make sure and I'm wondering if the pain I'm feeling is the pain of progress, or the pain of doing it completely wrong and making no progress at all.
