hi there. i've been an on-and-off lurker and veeery occasional poster here at susan's for a while now, and i thought it might be nice to say hello.
about me; i'm a twentysomething living in a major US city and have been in transition, medically, for about a year and a half. i've been presenting as female for over two years.
i'm at a very exciting point in my life. in january of this year i had a trachea shave and mandible contouring (susan's was a helpful resource in choosing which doctor and what exactly i wanted done) and while i do still have a bit of recovering left ahead, i'm very pleased with the subtle and feminine results so far.
about a month ago i started seeing a voice coach to help get my speaking voice into the passable range. for the first time, truly living a normal, hassle-free life seems feasible. i still have work to do, but i have genuinely surprised myself with some of the results that we have produced together already.
i have an amazing and supportive boyfriend, without whom i wouldn't have been able to do any of this. when i was in the hospital recovering from surgery overnight, he slept in a chair next to my bed. no one ever made me felt so cared for before in my life. his level of devotion moved me to tears more than once in the week or so that i could do almost nothing on my own. when i started to see a vocal coach located almost an hour outside of the city, he immediately insisted that i borrow his car. when we started dating he welcomed me into his home and, though he's only a graduate student and makes little money himself, his financial support has made the difference that allowed me to have surgery without worrying about being financially crippled and to even afford voice lessons on top of it. long story short, he is amazing. i think it's important, especially for girls like us, to know that we can have good things in our lives.
unfortunately, i don't have such exciting things to say about my family. *shrug*
i have always had a passion for art, which has manifested in my daily life in a new way since starting transition. i really love makeup. one thing that i have actually thought about recently, especially since i see girls posting here all the time expressing their need for makeup tips, is venturing into making short videos. it seems to me that it would be a a fun way to practice with my voice and maybe help some people out too. we'll have to see about that, however, because i am exceptionally internet-shy.
