Hi everyone! I just got my passport today and wanted to share my experience/how I did it.

I'm currently only a couple of months on hrt, and have been full time onle since the end of last september (2013). Therefore I don't have a gender recognition certificate.

What I do have, and what you need for a passport, is your deed poll done, and a letter from your GP saying that your transition is likely to be permanent (along with all the other required documents outlined in the passport application process).

Obviously I'm not trying to give anyone a shortcut, and your GP will definitely need to feel this is true, but just trying to give some advice out there to anyone who didn't know you can get a passport without a gender recognition certificate in the UK!

Hope this helps :)

Although English I live abroad. As with Eggy_nog I too obtained my new passport with new gender and name. It is worth reading through all the wealth of information about transgender passport application process from the passport centre. One document states that you need gender change certificate OR a letter from your doctor indicating your status and pernamence change. Luckily my doctor here works in a transgender center and it all went smoothly without certificate.

It is also useful to write a covering letter explaining things - and look relaxed on your photo.
