I'm a month away from my June 18 Dr Brassard Surgery date. Naturally I'm in a panic gathering supplies! This is my first time looking at lubricants and it is harder to decide than I thought. Don't want to get something that I'll hate or will be a mess.

Any suggestions on lubes?

All the water based lubes are similar mess wise. Best to get the cheapest sterile lube right after surgery and switch to a store brand if it's cheaper than the roughly $2 a tube from a medical supply company.

I bought my supplies off eBay,  in bulk I. E.  12/24 at a time and got it fairly cheap and sealed as getting it from a store.  But much cheaper.  As far as brand I have been a KY girl since day 1, my Dr and gyno uses it when I need that area checked so if they use it, I figured it'd be the way I go.

He recommends KY or other water-based lubricant, and they use a medical grade version of KY (basically) at the recovery residence. I used KY for the first 3 months, and then on the advice of my GP switched to Vagisil "feminine moisturizer" after that. I did check Brassard's instructions, and he said any water-based lubricant was fine, which this is. The nice thing is the Vagisil lasts tons longer than the others I've tried; I'm dilating a little more than once a week now and a 2-oz tube lasts me months and months, plus it doesn't make as much of a mess.

Dr. Brassard tells us and gives water based gel.

I used store brands and KY when on sale.

Buying in bulk or sales is a good idea being it is used like water first few months

I may have to try the vagisil but to be honest I only really use the lube during dilation as I seem to be able to lube naturally enough during Intercourse, kinda hard to be turned on by a rock hard piece of plastic.

Calico : Yeah, I was talking lube for dilation as well. Like you, I self-lubricate pretty reasonably when turned on, but you got that right - the dilators are NOT sexy!

Just to add to the discussion,  I finally got to try the vagisil moisturizer/lubricant.  While it was kinda a journey to locate (available at CVS pharmacies)  I will admit it is definitely better then the KY,  also another one to add which I had tried was living,  however it is a bit pricey.  The vagisil is actually at an affordable price that is comparable to KY,  and as soon as  deplete my supply I will be using the vagisil. :)

Calico : I'm glad it turned out to be helpful advice for you. :) I order Vagisil from Amazon; it was about $20 for 4 2-oz bottles last time I did, but I'm still only halfway through that supply and I ordered it about six months ago. That stuff lasts *forever* compared to the KY, for me.  (Plus at least the expense is lessening as I dilate less frequently, regardless of price per bottle.)
