I had two characters, though I only completed everything with one of them.   The other was my through caution to the wind character so I could see what things would be like if I took different actions.   Yeah, it's a very addicting game and took up a lot of time.  One of the only modern games that I dedicated so much time over.  I'm looking forward to Skyrim, but I've been waiting to play it when I had time.  Now, that it's a plenty at the moment, I'll be sure to check it out. sometime soon.

By the way, are the skyrim expansions worth getting?  I have the original game unopened, so I may just get the complete version instead if that's possible.

yes. They're more than your typical DLC, but not as long as some other expansions, but for the price they're definitely worth it. They were worth it when they came out.

Dawnguard is a thrilling questline centering around a "family" of vampires and an organization of vampire hunters

Hearthfire allows you to adopt children and to built your own house (not as freely as in Minecraft, but very nice nonetheless) and adds several other features.

Dragonborn sends you back to Solstheim, the main location of the second Morrowind expansion Bloodmoon, nice but a bit short, but as a package deal in the Legendary Edition? Hell yes!  This one is quite Lovecraft-influenced

I agree, totally worth it; they add fun and interesting gameplay plus lots of cool weapons and armor. I like that they give you new avenues to explore if you are into the character creation aspect of it. With previous Elder Scrolls games I only every played the one character but with Skyrim I am up to 9, each with their own unique experience, personality and rich backstory in my head  :D

Skyrim is definitely #1 for me.

Also (in no particular order):
Morrowind
Oblivion
Fallout 3
Spore
From Dust
Minecraft
Assassins Creed
Mass Effect 2 & 3
The Total War Series
Age of Empires
Civilization
Cheers!

my Skyrim characters were the most fleshed-out (in my mind), so i played them more like people than in other RPGs.

IMO, they're only worth getting if you plan on modding the game, since by themselves... yeah, I'm not extremely impressed by any of the DLC. Other than maybe Hearthfire. That's pretty cool. I still haven't finished Dragonborn because Solstheim kinda depresses me (I never played Morrowind, which is supposedly the ultimate awesomeness in terms of Elder Scrolls). Serana is a pretty cool character from Dawnguard, but that whole DLC feels like more of a timesink than an actual interesting story (just my opinion after playing both sides of it).

However, the DLC's aren't really standalone with Skyrim. They all add extra features into the base game. Even if you don't do the DLC's themselves. Random vampire attacks are annoying as hell, but you can mod them out. A lot of mods require all the DLC's present to work properly though. Not sure if that's something you want to get into, but if so then it's something to think about.

It's worth getting the Legendary Edition (game + all DLC's) if you can, since that has everything and is a good base to start from if you want to venture into modding (which is likely where a good deal of your enjoyment will come from if you're playing it on the PC). It recently got a price drop in the UK, although I'm not sure if that also happened in the US.

That being said, you may well enjoy the DLC's immensely. In which case... there's only one way to find out. :)

My favorite games are....

Zelda Ocarina of Time (first game I ever owned)
Mass Effect (played almost 200 hours of this game)
Mass Effect 2 (3 was a good game, but not good enough to be a fave)
Dragon Age Origins
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic
Star Wars: Battlefront II
Halo 1-3 (they just weren't as fun after 3 imo)
Resident Evil 1 GC remake
Resident Evil 4
Fallout 3
Bioshock
Bioshock Infinite
Assassin's Creed (only the first one)
Alan Wake
Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc (simply cuz nostalgia)
Pikmen
Runescape 2 (nostalgia again)
Mario Kart Double Dash
Dark Souls ( I haven't gotten far but it's sooo beautiful and dark)
Crysis

Honorable Mention: Skyrim, it was a total glitchy mess with meh gameplay (imo) but the world was beautifully crafted and I may have almost put 1,000 hours into it simply because the world felt real.
We all build masks to hide behind, for we've all stepped into the bright world without those shells only to be broken and ridiculed. I'm tired of peering at the vast, beautiful but deadly world through these eye holes. I am taking off my mask, whatever may come.

I've been gaming sice the 70's so I can't list all my fave games, hard to remember them all.

Pitfall 2 on Atari - This game was huge and being an Indiana Jones fanatic I loved it.
Elite - c64 To this day one of the greatest sima ever made, how they fitted a living universe in 64k no one will ever know.
Paradroid - c64 Posess other robots slowly but surely, or take a chance at something out of your league? best music ever?
Delta - c64 Ok best music ever.

Stunt Car Racer - Amiga I really wish they would make a modern version of this.

Mario 64 and Mario kart 64 - Amazing games, the Wii U version of Mario was just as good, lets hope mk8 is too.

FF7 - Cause it was FF7

Grand Theft Auto series, I really like driving random cars around a city.

World Of Warcraft - actually had near 400 days played before the first expansion, had to quit.

Link between worlds - 3ds The first Zelda game I actually beat, couldn't put it down.

Lately I play Warframe on PC mostly. Really enjoyed the new tomb raider. I play ultra nerdy racing simulators with a wheel also.
I will touch a 100 flowers and not pick one.

One of my favorite game series is "Tales of". I loved Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss the most. I think the stories in them were some of my favorite ever. In fact, I always name my female characters on other RPGs after Mystearica (Tear) from Abyss.
