An added complication if you are over 30 is that a lot of andro/unisex clothes like hoodies are usually associated with youth fashion, so you can look a bit ridiculous wearing them ("trying to hard to look young") that IMO is more painfully obvious that trying to pass.

I respectfully disagree about quite a wide range of "young" clothes. If you have the body of a young person (slim and fit) and have style, you are not mutton dressed as lamb.

I've noticed that the prices for some designer clothing is astonishing ridiculous.

And you have to know exactly what you're getting if buying online. What a gamble. Too bad there aren't designer showrooms in the cities.

Some people will think you look ridiculous if you dress androgynous period. One does have to develop a thick skin if one dresses outside the norm. In some ways, it's harder if you are young, trying to fit in. Teenagers are the ones most likely to make rude comments, being all immature and such.

^^ Yeah if you are wearing that dorky extreme androgyny stuff with the space suits and platform shoes. :D

That's actually one of my peeves with androgyny today. The gaudy looking fashion that's marketed with most things "androgyny" in general.

Not much professional and conservative stuff. Really neutral stuff.

Where can I get a space suit?  :)

Also not much in formal wear. I hate having to wear a traditional suit and tie, and I'd hate having to wear a tux if I'm invited to such an event now even more.

Like this kind of stuff that's shoveled as androgyny-ware

Seriously? Even I feel like giving them a beat down just because.

That just shows you how fine the line is. The one on the left looks pretty good to me. The one on the right, not so much.

I disagree, I think young people can get away with being "edgy". Generally the only thing that happens is that people will slot them into different social/fashion cliques (preppies, goths, thug, hiphop etc. etc.).  But its something else if someone in their 30s, 40s, or 50s are "dressing outside of their generation".

It just doesn't work.
You can do it (you can do anything you want), but it will be like a neon sign and greatly increase the chances of getting clocked.

OMG this jacket. This is the stuff I'm talking about. Too bad it's also a $1,000 (and encroaching summer)

Perhaps that old guy is out of his generation, but as someone in my late 30's, my generation also had preppies, goths, hiphop, also glam, metal, and grunge. 80's and 90's androgynous rock stars that are now in their 40's, 50's, even 60's mostly still dress androgynous. One does have to keep up fashion somewhat though. I just can't find at a store, tight, acid washed orange tag Levi's that I wore back then today, and would look even more out of place if I went out in a vintage pair I'm sure I could find online.

I love my http://shop.lululemon.com/ clothing here in Canada, they have tons of active-wear for women which is androgynous, for cheaper things you can also order from Asia but make sure to account for the fact that their sizes are different, most westerners need XXL or bigger.

At least the price is right but it's always a gamble.

^^^ That double breasted cardigan is nice. Are the sizes one size small compared to the US? Say if I needed a US small would that be the med?

For myself I order XXL but in western guys clothing I'm a Medium/Large. I've been meaning to order some more clothes from them since I really like the style and price.

There are lots of "meetoo" brands that carry knock-offs now at most any discount clothing store.  They will have stuff that is 6 months to a year old. Still in fashion, but you don't pay for being "bleeding edge".  This works in the fashion backwater where I live...

I tend to gravitate more towards the discount stores that get the odd sizes and left over inventory, since many of us girls use odd sizes it works out great for me and I'm able to pick up good clothes and really low prices.
