My friends (they've sort of become surrogate parents) are asking me if I have any book recommendations. They found True Selves: Understanding Transsexualism--For Families, Friends, Coworkers, and Helping Professionals at the library. That's really the only book I've read on it and it was ok, but I didn't think it was all that great (ymmv). Anyone have any other suggestions?

I like The Transgender Guidebook: Keys to a Successful Transition by Anne L Boedecker PhD. - Really thorough and descriptive.

I agree with you on True Selves. I though a lot of it was outdated and tended to cater to stereotypes of trans people.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

I quite enjoyed Transgender 101: A Simple Guide to a Complex Issue by Nicholas M. Teich. It makes a good reader for people who are unfamiliar with trans* issues and would like a crash course.

My therapist recommended Head over Heels: Wives Who Stay with Cross-Dressers and
Transsexuals by Virginia Erhardt.  Would also like to look into 101.

The Transgender child, is a very good book that my dad bought can buy it at amazon for 15 dollars. It has entries from different people. Defined as a guide book for families and friends.
