Hi,

I am wondering about recovery times after surgery.

I am in school during the year, and am not sure when my surgery will happen, if it happens during the school year approx. how much time do you think I would need to take off before returning to classes?

What is it like recovering? I know you aren't supposed to reach up because that could stretch the incisions, but if class does not involve any reaching up, would I really have to take much time off?

Normally 3 weeks. Keep in mind you may tire more easily and that sort of thing (I'm including the whole surgery thing and everything). Some campuses are easier than others. You might need someone to carry stuff or at least finding a bag to cart your stuff around in. This is surgery and not trivial. If you are getting a peri, it won't take as much time. (That's if you are smaller.)

Depends partly on whether you have to carry any heavy stuff around, as well as reaching up. Personally I would have been fine to go back to class as soon as I got the drains out (which was 5 days). I had surgery during fall break so it was 10 days before I went back to uni. It was probably closer to 6 weeks before I started feeling more normal again, but I remember I was at this crazy party 2 weeks post-op so I must not have been feeling that bad...

I had very small incisions though, not DI, so not sure how much of a difference that makes.
