My Emisil Was Not Sealed! (Please see updates for positive resolution)

So I would have put this in my reviews thread, but I figured it was important enough to have its own.

My Emisil prosthetic was not sealed.  Meaning that the product was colored, probably with alcohol-based pigments, and then sent out.  The color was not "locked in" with a final layer of silicone (as it should be).

Alcohol-based pigments are water proof and soap proof, but not necessarily friction proof or safe to use internally.  As I also found out, they come off with adhesive removers/prosthetics cleaning agents like anything alcohol based.  So if you get some glue from the tab on the body of your prosthetic? Well. Good luck to you getting it off safely.

I have never seen anything like this before. Ever. This does not happen with Sinthetics products. I doubt it would happen with RM. I'm just...kind of in awe right now. I don't know what to do.  I went ahead and removed all the coloring so that I could at least have a packer that didn't look like a freshly-harvested potato...and I'm not sure I want them making another painting attempt...so I don't even know what contacting them about this would achieve.

UPDATE:

Going on advice from this thread, I contacted Emisil about a replacement or a refund. They were extremely receptive, and went above and beyond to fix the issue.  Since I contacted them, I've received THREE replacement prosthetics, all of which were sealed and wonderfully colored. The last one was a tester of their new adhesion tab, so it had a few "errors" (two or three areas where the shading was off) but being a free sample, I don't think that should count against them. They still have some work to do on thetab, but I think they're moving in the right direction. I'm writing a comprehensive review of the entire experience as we speak, so stay tuned.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask directly!

Again, the first product I was sent was indeed a mistake.  I don't believe there is any reason to doubt the sealant on other models.  If you do find a problem however, Emsil has shown that they are extremely dedicated to resolving any issues that arise. If you see anything fishy, shoot them an email. I honestly don't believe that they are trying to scam any one.

Wow.  This is horrible.  Is it possible he doesn't know or just messed up your packer (like it forgot that step on your one)?  It's just crazy.

Sorry it happened, man.  I hope you can send it back and get the cash back (I saw on your link where you said the imperfections are even more visible now).

It sucks because it FEELS good on. Like, it's so comfortable. Sits perfectly...I'd honestly take a partial refund if I got to keep it, but I'm not sure the system works like that.  Perhaps I do have a claim under this, though:

"The dye used is silicone-based. Therefore, it cannot be washed or removed in some other way."

Obviously untrue in my case.

For the price you paid, I HOPE that this was just a manufacturing mistake and they forgot to seal it. BUT those imperfections even in the packer its self is just awful! I'd be asking for some sort of compensation. Something that cost that much should of never left that companies door step looking like that.

I would contact them anyways.

Things that can possibly be achieved by contacting:
1. They will be made aware of an error (it might've been just yours, it might've been every one they've ever made).
2. If it's a large scale error they can work on correcting it, a small scale error (meaning just yours) can be fixed easier.
3. It can help them create a better product
4. It can help them in improving quality control

So, it might not help you all that much, but it probably will help other people out.

Perhaps it's a quality control issue and not an actual flaw. IOW perhaps they made a mistake on yours'. Obviously it is not anywhere near appropriate. I know other prosthetics that have some issues: the infamous TUP, LJ with the shiny flaky ones, and Like Real which I have heard fade.

I think you need to contact them.

Thank you guys for the support; I did end up contacting them and they've offered me another prosthetic.  I'm unsure of whether to take them up on it, or to insist on my money back, seeing as there were other aspects that I wasn't pleased with. Perhaps I can point these out to them as well, and they'll be resolved in the next version along with the color issue?

What do you guys think?

I didn't think that it could just be my prosthetic...I was kind of not all there when I started this thread. I've changed the wording in the original post to reflect this possibility.

What I would do is ask if the defects could be addressed (and not happen in the next one), and ask if they usually seal the painted ones. I would add that if both problems were things they can guarantee will be fixed, I would accept another. If the next one has the same problems then a refund. One not being right could be a mistake, two not being right isn't.

Yeah, I can't even say how bummed I am.  I have been waiting months for a review and I am so disappointed, but also thankful that I didn't send the cash.  Thank you Nowhereboi for saying, no doubt, more than one of us some significant money.  Also, thank you so much for all the pictures.  I am glad to hear that he will replace it. 

Some questions:

1)Did he say whether or not it was a "sealing" issue?  Did he even know what you were talking about?

2)I am caucasian, so maybe this wouldn't be a problem?  Are all silicone packers "dyed"?  I have no idea what the original silicone color would look like.

Brett, it would still be an issue regardless of your race, the problem here is how dark the color is coming off, but I still wouldn't want paint coming off in my underwear regardless. They use a silicone paint but they seal it with something like a clear varnish (obviously not varnish but that's the idea anyway). I've heard of paint coming off in small areas around the edges but never seen anythign like that.

*Packers* are usually NOT painted to my knowledge. The silicone is given a color. I'm pretty sure that's how RM does their basic packer. OTOH prosthetics are normally given various touch ups and so on so the colors are more realistic.  It seems like a LOT of paint though from nowhereboi. But I was basically told how it was done by my acquaintance that is doing them. His base color seems like kind of a caramel, which seems very light to me.

You might ask them what they think the problem maybe Nowhereboi. If they guess the right way maybe. If they said we couldn't have done anything wrong well maybe they are being defensive.

What is their returns policy?  What you've got there is just not acceptable.

How many of your concerns are apparent defects, and how many are characteristics that just didn't work for you? You should obviously get a replacement that contains no actual defects, but the company might appreciate feedback on other aspects. If I were you, I would also want clarification on whether the unit I had bought simply had a defective dye job; you don't seem to have said what the company said about that.

If the defects are taken care of, what other issues do you have with the unit?

These issues included the color coming off, the surface defects at either side of the shaft base (which have now started to peel away from the rest of the packer), the color being badly mixed and the testicles not being what I asked for/what they assured me they could provide when I ordered (soft, floating testes rather than small, hard marbles).  I used the advice I was given here: I said that I would take a replacement rather than a refund only IF they could fix these issues in the next packer.  They responded by saying they had already started on the new one and would make all the changes I outlined.  They also assured me again that it is NOT common for the color to be removable.

I'm...really not sure about the whole thing. They've been very available and accomodating, but...I kind of doubt the overall quality of their work now.  I'm not sure that what I get will be worth what I paid...

Well, now we wait. If the redone one has all your fixes imagine how great that would be!

Yes, I think you'll just have to wait and see. If they do a poor job and refuse to give you a refund, you can always threaten to spam Susan's Place with uncomplimentary threads about their product.

Actually this sort of approach worked for me, but of course they have to be kind of aware of susans. But anyway, with me it was the Leva.. thum project, whatever. Anyway I ordered from them and it was maybe 3 months and they hadn't shipped and I wrote them all sorts of emails. No response at all. I posted here and all of a sudden they recalled that I ordered something. And I got it in a week. Coincidence. I don't believe in those.
