Christopher Street West, which organizes LAPride, renamed the event "the TLGB Celebration."

Granzell said the organization switched the now common LGBT acronym, which stands for Lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender, to TLGB for this year's festival because of a growing concern that the transgender community was underserved.

Seems like a nice gesture.

I love LA. That is probably about the best thing I heard today. Finally.

I actually was in the parade yesterday with the folks from the Los Angeles Diocese of the Episcopal Church, and while I was only one of three people out of 80 in our parade unit who was Trans*, another is a Trans* Male minister who was our preacher at a Communion service we had before the parade began. As we marched by one place where there was a group of "God Hates Gays" folks, one of the people in our group yelled out the folks on the other side that before beginning our march we had had Breakfast (the Communion) with Jesus and everything was cool with Jesus and His Father and the rest of us.  I heard that comment going through the crowd from where I was.

There was indeed some good Trans* representation both in the parade and at the festival at the end of the parade route.  Several Trans* groups got together and set up a good sized "Lounge" with some comfortable chairs and couches, and electric fans, since our weather was HOT there.  Surprisingly there were a whole pile of folks whom I know there, and it was fun to hug each other.  I also ended up with a even dozen of condom samples!!  I suppose I can put them in my hope chest, but right now, my dilator is still disease free, and I am too old to get preggers.  Sigh!!

Vicky - i also marched in the parade and I heard those guys when we crossed la cienega. It's funny - the church I go to uses the same reference textbook that they were using and has a completely different opinion than they did lol..... So I just ignored them as so much noise. They were not exhibiting the love of Christ.

I was with a friend and we looked everywhere for the trans tent and we finally found it late in the day - they had it hidden pretty good. The vibe in the tent was totally different than the vibe outside and it felt like home to me.

I threw all of the condoms I got in various gifts away last night - I've got no use for those anymore.

Oh, and those couches in the trans tent were a blessing to my aching feet! :)

It is nice to know that there are places where we are not invisible. Good for you LA  :)

The minister I spoke about up above sent me a Facebook Friend request a little after I posted this morning.  Another Trans* girl we both know sent us a picture of her posing in front of the hate group with a big sweet smile on her face.  She is one of the first young people to take advantage of California's Excellence In Education Act, and plays girl's baseball at the high school near the college Adam got fired from.

Please don't take this the wrong way. Y'all are making me homesick, lol!! I do miss living in LA sooooo much. And California in general as it's where I'm from (high desert area). I think it's great that LA Pride emphasized us in this festival. I only wish I could be there to participate. Just the fact they had a trans tent is new to me compared to the Pride Festivals here in Florida. I went to one down in Lake Worth this past March while I was on Vacation. I met some really great people and really enjoyed myself. So I can only imaging how great of an experience the LA Pride Festival and parade must have been. Thanks for sharing and reminding me a little of home.
