How many pushups can you do now that you're on HRT?

Not to sidetrack, but OMG I added 30-sec planks to my (limited) exercise routine, and I thought I was going to die! I nursed myself back to life with some chips ahoy though :)

I can't do any more than 10 and I'm not on HRT AHAHAHA #LAZY

You know thinking about all this newfound weakness, this can't be good for our own personal safety.

I guess that's a risk I'm willing to compromise.

Oh and my bugout bag I packed a year ago is way too heavy now. Will have to take out half the items. (bye-bye neti pot, bluerays, makeup kits, lotions, *sigh*)  ;D

I don't do pushups in my normal routine but I plank for 60 seconds or much more if I can handle it. Planking is very good for the core and helps with posture.....not to mention the buttocks :)

I had to just try to see if I could though....I went down on the floor and easily did 12, I could of went on to at least 25 I feel. I don't weigh a lot so that does help. With pushups one is using more than just upper strength though. Now a pull up is a different story....not many women or even men can do even one.

My children laugh at me when I try to show I have more muscle then them, but I feel I still do and it works when I want it too or really need it, but in everyday life it is more difficult to do the things I once did by myself. I buy 50# bags of dog food....I can still mange to get it in the trunk, but it is more of a struggle.....usually though there is always some man in the lot to offer me help....I definitely don't turn him down! :)

I'm 53, 5'10"/ 146 pounds and have been on a transition level estrogen HRT regimen since January 2010. I gave up pushups 15 years ago because they were hurting my wrists so I'm a little out of practice. That said, I just came in from push mowing the yard, saw the thread and dropped down on the floor to give you twenty (LOL, not claps).

I have taken to yoga for my back since I retired, can press into wheel, jump to crow, do arm balances, and 60 second hand stands. I have been scrawny for my entire life. People have always marveled at my strength and HRT has not effected it. My physical ability comes from the mind, not the muscle, years of self discipline and meditation.

Now, since claps where mentioned, I decided to try those one two - I can still do 3 pushups with claps (used to be around 10-15).
And - oh crap - I can actually do 4 pull-ups too... one 100% clean one and the rest with a bit of body cheating. I must have become stronger (or lighter) or I am doing something wrong :).

I had to try this <gasp, gasp> :-\

I used to carry people down ladders for a living and now, wobbly arms at 10, collapse at 18. I measured and taped before HRT and before Biceps were 18" (now 14"), wrist's were 10" (now 71/2").  ::) I believe I have arrived at the dark side now! Where's the cookies at? ;D

Found them  :D

Answers are easy. It's asking the right questions which is hard.

It means you where blessed!  :D

Em, that's pretty good sis!

I never could do many to begin with  :P

(Of course that is to be expected when one is 5' 10" and 125 lbs fully clothed and dripping wet)

Height: 5'7.5"
Weight: 137lb

Before (not on knees): 50-75 in a row [with me collapsed on floor afterwards]
Last Night (on knees) : 20 and running out of pace around there. Probably could do 30.
Tonight (not on knees) 15 exhausted me with collapsing to the floor. Out of breath for a few minutes after. <-- Edit

However, I can barely lift 40lb cat litter bucket with both hands. Tried this the other day when out shopping with a friend and she made fun of me  :P
So I'm pretty much screwed if I'm pinned. I do have diamond hard nails though ^_^

I exercise a bunch, I can manage 8, but I am not terribly sure I could manage much more before. When I used to unload trucks for a living I know I could do a bunch but that was years ago, and all I do is drive them now. Still I do have the physical demands of cranking the landing gear up and down on several trailers a day and opening and closing my hood everyday. The hood weighs alot, it isn't like a car hood and the landing gear push up or down 50,000+ lbs but, there is a great deal of mechanical advantage there.

I exercise a bunch so that I can still do the things that are demanded of my physically I see nothing wrong with that especially seeing as other women do indeed do the work I do, and none of them seem to want to be too weak to do their jobs either lol. I only care about strength insomuch as I can be independent, I have lost a bit, but probably not as much as most because I fear loss of independence far more than I fear people thinking me too muscular (which would never happen I have like very little visible muscle).

So, are we talking about one-handed, or two-handed?

I'm amazed at how HRT zapped my ability to do pushups in such a short amount of time. Pushups were never really part of my exercise routine, but I could have easily done a 80-100 with very little difficulty.

Now, decided to test due to this thread. I can do about 25 with a lot of strain involved. This sounds in line with the rest of you girls. I was warned about this, but honestly, I don't miss the extra strength. I just get someone else to do the heavy lifting.   :)

Yeah, I've always a pretty intense presence before and street people never messed with me, but last week I was in SF and was like,"where the F did all these homeless and EDPs(Emotionally Disturbed Persons) come from?"

Even with just 2 months HRT and still presenting male, my presence is just so much...softer, that my bubble of safe space has shrank considerably.

Regarding packs, I came out to my ultra conservative best friend this weekend, and he asked me,"after this administration finishes destroying the country and we're in running gunfights with biker gangs across the wastelands of the former United States, will you need to carry a lighter pack?" LMAO

First thing, SF has decayed into a barely functioning cesspool over the last decade or so. It used to be much more friendly and vibrant all around but now it is a very disturbing place. Even the nicest parts have been trashed. There are places you can escape if you can afford it, but even then you have to come down to the street and no place is safe anymore. I absolutely hate going into the city. The last time I was there was going to a club with a girlfriend and we had some crazy person smash a glass booze bottle at us among the other insane commentary, pleas and harassment we were subjected to.

Second thing, I think it's awesome your friend doesn't even blink about being trans and is totally thinking about how you're going to survive in the future. That's so sweet.

So it seems I was misinformed.  I swore when I was researching before there were numbers to support roughly a 25% reduction in strength.  However, based on the results of these pushup self tests its more like >75% loss depending on how long you've been on HRT, with 75% being pretty close to the start of it. I'm also assuming this is also based on exercise as my 80% reduction is probably due to not working my upper body for 6mo.
