Obv i don't think there's anything wrong with butch lesbians...

But i don't wanna look like one! I wanted to be a guy, but my face is too girly.
I'm not 'out' yet, though.

What do i do?

This is what my hair looks like now:

Yes, that shirt is a girl shirt. My mom wanted me to wear it.

Help?

First question, are you on T? With time it will help change that girly face perception, and the hairline, add facial hair etc. But the waiting sucks.

If you are on T, perhaps you are in the awkward period many of us hit?
To be or not to be....that is the question

I understand the frustration with looking like a butch lesbian, but sadly, there isn't much that can be done without T. Even then, it can take awhile. There may be ways to style your hair to help you look more masculine while not compromising your personal taste. Anyone know anything about hair?

I'm thinking you look very androgynous. Even your hair, which I like.
I will suggest trying guy clothing. Maybe young men's.
Or just stylish guy clothing.

At first glance, I thought you were a young androgynous boy. T will help this along with making your face look more masculine, any chance you can see a therapist? Did you come out to your parents?

I wish I had those types of problems D: maybe you can try cutting your hair shorter? It's all about the clothes, and hair u_u

I'd avoid cutting the hair shorter. A typical butch haircut is the short military-style crew cut and other extremely masculine short haircuts. It's common for young men to have haircuts like you do in your pictures.

I think it looks fine, like others said, you just really need to wait til you get on T.

If you aren't on T, it's probably a little premature to get upset about still looking female. T will do wonders for you, especially if you get a doc that will prescribe enough of it!

Everyone is being very supportive but I would like to remind people that saying there's nothing you can do without T and that T will solve the problem of appearing male can be extremely triggering for those who can't get hormones for whatever reason.

For advice, your haircut looks feminine to me. I agree that a short crew cut is not the best idea since it's not popular with teenagers. I would look at some teenage boys' haircuts to see how it falls over their ears. The way your hair is covering your ears looks feminine to me.

I'm also going to second the person that suggested wearing some classy men's clothing. That will do wonders.

Getting a haircut can be triggering for bald people too. If we nixed everything someone could get triggered over, there would be no discussion or forum. Although it happens rarely, most people just arent going to be passable without cross sex hormones.

I think most of us go through an awkward phase when we are trying to find a hairstyle. I certainly still do. At 2 years on hormones I can still get a bad haircut. My advice from your pictures is maybe take it up over your ears and square off your sideburns. That being said, it can be really hard to find a style that works. I would avoid military cuts personally, unless you already have a build that is not questioned. I would also avoid the "bieber" because to me it looks like a flapper haircut. But that is my personal opinion. Keep age in mind too; it's easier for young guy to pull of certain styles and the reverse is true as well. Don't be afraid to experiment and look at what guys your age have. If you get a cut you don't like, don't stress and try something different. Remember, the only difference between a good and a bad haircut is about two weeks.

To me I probably wouldnt have seen it.

If I was walking around town and saw you dressed as a guy, I would probably presume you where a teen guy.

I think you could look really handsome and pass well personally but being yourself and actually living as yourself with people really knowing YOU are more important than passing imo anyway.

There are many mtf that dont pass most of the time but they still transition and are happier within their selves for it.
Hey ;)

Declan.

In my opinion, you don't look butch. Trimming it on the sides and in the back might help, but don't go short. If I saw you, I would read you as androgynous and wouldn't make an assumption about your gender.

I agree with the guys, you are passable but if you want to appear less androgynous I guess you should change a bit your haircut to make it more masculine. And try to avoid girl clothes if you can ;)

MtF passable or less passable are seen as trans* anyway, us FtM pre-T often have the problem to be seen as butch lesbians and people don't always recognize our transgender identity.
What does my gender identity has to do with my pizza order?

This exactly.

Relinquere, since you're still young I would go with the boy band look in the pic MacG posted and rock it. It's entirely possible to pass pre-T, but many of us have to do so by looking like feminine-ish boys rather than masculine guys. Justin Bieber might not be the manliest of men, but he's a heck of a lot easier for most pre-T guys under 25 or so to pass as than, say, Brad Pitt. You already look androgynous as is, so some minor changes to the haircut could be all it takes. Good luck. :)
