Hi everyone!

I go by the name Damien and I am an FTM.

I've come out to some of my friends already and they were fine with it. My parents are the only (significant) ones who seem to have a problem.

I'm trying to find a way to convince them that me not being the girl they always wanted me to be probably isn't that bad after all.

It isn't. I tried for a while when I was younger - about 8 or 9 - and while it made them happy, it made me miserable to the point that I started contemplating suicide (thankfully, those thoughts are gone now).

I have come out to them multiple times and they just don't seem to be able to get out of denial.

I'm all out of ideas and that is why I came here.

The main things to remember in life are Love, Kindness, Understanding and Respect - Always make forward progress

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS

A big warm welcome to the family Damien! There are many great topics here for coming out and sample letters which are brilliantly written that may help you, so relax, dig in and see what you can find to help you. A lot of time parental support is the hardest part of transitioning. I suppose it is because they are so used to your birth sex and feel like that person may die in their mind. All you can do is show resolve, knowledge and compassion when talking about this issue.  :)

Yeah, parents can really be a downer when transitioning.
Welcome to the forums, we are able to give you support when you need it.

Welcome to Susan's, Damien. Give your folks time. It's a lot to digest but they may come around.
