Pausing spiro suddenly dangerous?

Hai friends. I'm planning to stop spiro for 1-week in order to go vegetarian to get my system regular again.

So that entails consuming potassium rich produce. I'll need to get off spiro if I'm doing this.

It's probably a stupid question, but has anyone else stopped using it suddenly or is there any real danger with stressing your kidneys? Bloating?

As Spiro also acts as a blood pressure medication I would recommend you not do this without medical say so and supervision. I'm vegetarian and have had zero problem with high potassium foods. But then I also avoid all those high potassium drinks and have lots of water, etc.

Yeah I wanted to get tomatoes, carrots, oranges, soymilk and Naked brand Green Machine juice into my system which are all listed as high potassium foods.

Other than the juice, I eat those things, (and other potassium high things) just not in great quantities. I avoid a lot of processed food (including bottled juices) and mostly stick to the natural stuff. As with any diet, balance is the key.

I had the same worries when starting Spiro (I'm vegan and usually have a very potassium rich diet). I asked my doctor and she said that as long as it is from unprocessed foods (I.e. not potassium fortified) and as long as I don't have any preexisting kidney/liver problems, then there isn't an issue.
Maybe you could ask your doctor if there is any reason for you to cut out the Spiro when going vegetarian because it might not be necessary.

What a great, and very interesting thread to start, thank you Evelyn. I will be watching this thread with a lot of interest. For now, can I ask some of the more experienced girls that have posted on here, to what extent, or how much you would say is safe, in the amount of baked beans, peas, cabbage/greens, bananas, avocados, apples, broccoli, on a daily basis. I use to drink a regular and daily glass of ACV with the "Mother" [just so so good for your overall health], but have stopped for the fear of accumulating too much Potassium. I have started a new thread asking for input on side affects of other AAs, but I really would like to stay on Spironolactone because of its positive affects on me. The last time my bloods were checked my serum Potassium was 4.7mmol/L. My Doctor told me that the correct levels should be between 3.50 and 5.10mmol/L. For me to achieve these levels, I have had to cut back, to about one third, of my daily fruit and veg intake, which was very, very high, and I no longer risk having any ACV. I was also running frequently in my sweat gear, as Ive heard that the only way to get rid of any possible excess Potassium whilst on Spiro was by sweating it through your pores? I am unable to run at the moment because of recently having foot surgery [maybe have to start going for a sauna]... If only I could just keep to something like my usual healthy diet. All and any input would be much appreciated.
