Got my referral and first HRT appointment scheduled - Long wait though. >.<

Hi all,

So my referral finally came through and I just made my appointment with the endo. Sadly its not till February. >.< I did however ask to be put on the cancellation list in case something earlier opens up. Here's hoping. Now just need to survive the next 7 months. On the plus side, it does give me some time to lose those last few pounds (At 160, goal 150), grow my hair out and work on my voice.

That is a long wait. I'm glad you are looking for and seeing the bright side. It helps the time seem not as long when you have in between goals.

If you're absolutely set on working with that specific endocrinologist then the wait is what it is. I've never heard of a 7 month wait though, that's strange.

If you're wanting to get an appointment with any endocrinologist to get started start calling around, it's easy to get an appointment soon.

I called mine and got an appointment the next day.

Hi Kamyu, Congrats on getting your appointment. What part of the world are you in. It isn't the U.K is it, if so where abouts did you apply for your appointment? I applied to Charring Cross GIC in London. The waiting list to even get an appointment there, is over a year. I went on the waiting list in March/April 2014, apparently they are just giving appointments to the people who went on the list in May 2013. One of the other areas in the U.K might have a shorter waiting list, time wise. If you are in the U.K, I don't suppose you know which one would be the quickest clinic would you?? Thanks Kamyu.

The endocrinologist I'm seeing is one I was referred to by my Therapist. Unfortunately they were the only ones my Therapist could find within a 3 hour drive radius that does Transgender HRT. Every other Endo they contacted either doesn't do HRT or won't see transgender patients. I don't really live near any major city centers so that I was able to find an endo locally is surprising. I'm scheduled for Feb, but I'm hoping for an opening sooner. When I talked with them on the phone today, they told me that the wait is so long because they lost one of their partners recently so they are booked solid. They also said that openings do come up due to cancellations and such so it's a possibility I'll get in sooner. Or if they bring on another endo to lighten the load.

I'm probably going to do some more research and see if there are any Endo's that could get me in sooner. I need to talk to my Therapist and see what the response back was for the ones she contacted. I also have an appt with my GP this week so I'll ask them as well if they might know any.

Hi all,

Little bit of a followup. I emailed my therapist tonight and asked about continuing the search despite the scheduled appointment. With it being 7 months out, I asked her if it might be worth continuing to look. I also mentioned OBGYN's and Planned Parenthood to her. She wrote back that she had checked with local Endo's and OBGYN's, but had not checked with Planned Parenthood. Here's hoping PPH pans out. Their website does say they offer LGBT services. And if they don't, hopefully a OBGYN or Endo could be found with a closer appointment.

yes, the dreaded waiting game is a killer. 7 months  thats a bit ridiculous but i'm glad to hear that your may not have to wait that long. good luck

I got my letter December 3, 2013, just the other day I finally got a letter from the endo for an appt on Sept 30 2014! Fortunately I found a GP who is trans-friendly and switched doctors. I'm into my fourth month of HRT now, thankfully, because there is no way I could have waited this long without it. Considering the wait list and that my doctor has things well in hand, I'll probably cancel the endo appt and let someone else get in a bit early.

Anyway my point is, if you look maybe you can find a trans-friendly doctor willing to prescribe for you.

Wow, 7 months!! I just got my referral too and was bummed by the two week wait lol, pretty good really I guess especially considering I'm in lil ol New Zealand. I really wish you luck on finding another endo/prescriber!

Hey all,

I'm working on trying to find a diff endo. I just emailed my therapist today a list of ones I found in the area that might hold some promise. The biggest road block I'm finding is I live in a fairly rural city area with the nearest major city about 1.5 hours away. And even then finding a endo/obgyn/whatever willing to do Trans HRT is hard. So atm, worse case scenario, I wait 7 months. Middle ground, they have a earlier opening and can squeeze me in earlier. Best case, I find another that can work me in much sooner.

I talked with my GP this week, and she said she's willing to work with me on maintaining, but isn't comfortable with starting HRT as she has no experience with it. I did however ask her to let me know if she finds anyplace that can start the HRT process. She has a few connections so I'm hoping that works out.

In the meantime, it's a waiting game. Fortunately the major anxiety from the major dysphoria attack has subsided. But it apparently burned up my serotonin enough that I had to increase my dosage of Escitalopram. Here's hoping for the return of my favorite side effect, dead sex drive. It's been really annoying since the attack.
