I've been going to the movies lately alternating between make up and no make up. I look quite female I think with make up ,but more questionable with out. The cashier at the theater today has seen me in both modes and I think he just gave up and said ma'am      today even though I had no make up on. It was kind of a pleasant surprise. So change does happen

If it was me I would avoid gender pronouns completely unless I was positive I knew which direction you were going in. I might go for "hey you"

I was speaking in general. Especially if they are in the in between stage.

This is true. Unless they are little kids, most people don't ask if you're a boy or girl, they just dance around the topic and give you funny looks. Or maybe I just look funny naturally. ;)

I think it's more that I'm in the 60/40 range. the bar tender at the bar in the theater looks at me very curiously .but very friendly. never get misgenderd  though with make up on. They might be just curious  because I go there a lot both made up and not made up. It's fun. The thing that they know me as male because I've been going there for over 10 years and I just started transitioning 9 months ago.
