i'm sure this is something that varies by state/city, but is there a waiting list/waiting period to start T? i've heard of guys saying they've waited several months to start T and i'm not entirely sure how that works.
i have an appointment on wednesday with a physician who will likely prescribe me T, but i'm wondering how long it'll actually take me to be able to start it.
is this a thing or am i going crazy?

I went to a therapist and the 3rd appointment (with in 2 weeks) I had my letter and was starting T as soon as I could get my script filled and get in to have my dr do my first shot, literally all a week later. But I've also heard of people visiting therapists that take months, some places are informed consent and start you right then and there and so on. So really all depends on who you find.
I run a FtM blog where I pour my experiences out for others to read. Check it out!

Usually when they say that they waited several months, they mean that they had to wait to get an appointment with a specialist who either writes the T approval letter (a psych, therapist, etc.) or who prescribes the T itself (endocrinologist, etc.).  Sometimes specialists have long waiting lists - especially if they specialise in treating trans* folk.

The other thing they mean is that their psychiatrist/therapist will not write them the approval letter for several months/a year.

As Hex said, it depends on who you see and where you live in the world.

I'm having to wait because I changed insurance and am changing insurance again (all within a year) and never got set up with a pcp or endo.

So... no actual waiting period, just logistics. I also imagine I will have to get some blood work done before getting a T Rx.

okay, sweet, thanks! i'm pretty sure i'm seeing an informed consent doc (she's not a therapist, i know that). so i'm hoping it'll only take me like another week or so. i'm going to a low income clinic, so i'm not really sure what to expect.

Waiting list? that's news to me.
You just need a therapist letter, meet up with your "T doc" and you get your prescription...
I got my first shot the day I went to see him.
