I came out at work last week, and yesterday composed a couple emails to neighbors and my contractor. These were very well received, so I thought I'd share the contractor letter here, which was just a bit different than the neighbor letter.

(Salutation)

(Question about current job status)

Also, I wanted to let you know that my name is changing. I've recently
come out as transgender. If you are not familiar, transgender (in my
case)
means that though I was born female, I identify as male. My new name
is ********, and I prefer to be called by that name and referred
to with male pronouns. My new email address is ******@******.com.
My phone number is still ***-***-***.

I have been transitioning since March with the help of my therapist.
Changes in my appearance and voice will be very gradual; I do not
expect to look or sound any different for many months.

Since this is a very sensitive and personal issue, I would appreciate
it very much if you would not "out" me to others. Transgender people
are often victims of violence, and I do have very real concerns about
my personal safety. (Mutual friend) knows, and I'm fine with you letting your
crew know - I expect them to treat me with the same respect and
professionalism as they have in the past. You've always had a great
bunch of guys working for you.

Please feel free to ask me ANY questions and let me know of any
concerns you may have! It is important to me that you feel comfortable
with this change.

Thanks!

Hope this helps someone!

Nice one!

When I went FT i had to tell various professional bodies. I wrote one letter to a financial group saying that I bet you have never received a letter like this before. Explained I was MtF, had a legal name change and I hoped they were comfortable with still working with me.
I finished by saying they were welcome to frame my letter and put it on their wall.

I was being a bit sarcastic I think!

I received a lovely letter back, welcoming me in my new name and persona and saying yes they have framed my letter and put it on their wall so that everyone who dealt with them knew they were proud to work with everyone in society and all people are equal.

Every time we chip away at society we make it easier for the next man or woman who follows our path.
