Laverne Cox, transgender actress from Orange is the New Black, was honored by Logo TV on Wednesday for breaking new grounds for equality in the quest for LGBT civil rights.
Cox referenced a time when patrons of Stonewall were lined up and arrested if they were not wearing at least three items of clothing associated with their gender at birth.
"Sylvia Rivera, a true trailblazer, was present at the Stonewall rebellion," Cox acknowledged in her acceptance speech. "She, as a trans person, a street queen, a hustler, warned us about becoming a movement that was only for white, middle-class people. And 45 years later, the most marginalized of our communities are still struggling."
