US — Transgender Americans have won major victories in the past year as bans on coverage for gender-confirming surgeries were overturned in five states, in Washington, DC, and federally in the Medicare program. It is time for Washington State to follow suit.

The first thing I noticed about this article is a condition known as "dysphoria-a." I thought it was a category of dysphoria: type a, type b, and so on. I had never heard of such a thing.

Last I checked, hormone replacement was 2 words, too. The gist of the article is good though. I had a co-worker who doesn't think he should pay premiums for a plan that covers trans care because he doesn't need it. Oh well, I don't need prostate exams either but I was paying premiums that covered it.

I dont want my tax money funding war, but i dont get a choice in the matter. If i want to fund things i do care about, such as healthcare i have to fund everything else the tax money is used for too. Its not pick and mix. If you want to exist in this society you need to contribute just like everyone else.

Just because you disagree with something it doesn't mean you get to opt out. The way tax funding works is it is a collective effort to fund a whole range of items the government and experts it hires decides is worthy of it. The experts have decided globally that the pathway of gender care used today is indeed needed and does indeed save lives.

Sure people can campaign against stuff they disagree with, but they cant expect their opinions to be worth more than anyone else, the only way you add weight and importance to your message is if you are backed by legitimate scientific study and research. Tangible evidence, and even then in this society that information's power is limited, the flow of change in this civilization is governed by the culture of the relevant population of people, every single person contributes to the endless flowing change of this culture and nobody has a birth right to dominance over anybody else in said population. Perceived dominance only lasts as long as people recognize their power.

Luckily with tools such as the internet, it is getting increasingly easier to make knowledge available for everyone, and in turn positive change.
