Can I use public toilets after SRS?

The law in the UK states that if you dress as a woman but your a man or as a man but your a woman, you have to use the toilets for the sex you were born.

But it says nothing, about 'us' who are changing gender and had SRS.

Some people in our club house didn't like me using female toilets and I still can't use them!!

What is the law in the UK after SRS and can other people really stop me from using female toilets?

These people are fine with what I am doing though.

And some still call me "he" but are fine with my gender change.

I was always under the impression that with or without surgery in the UK we are allowed to use the toilets for the gender we identify with. I have always used female toilets pre and post op and I have never had any difficulty.

I think there is a fine line between cross dressing and actual transsexualism here. Where cross dressers are cis-gender and have no wish to actually change their sex and transgender people are those that wish to undergo (or have undergone) sex-reassignment surgery.

The law would obviously state for cis cross dressers to use the toilets for their birth gender. However I believe you should use the toilets for the gender you identify with. I had a few toilet issues in college but after the college looked into the situation they informed me I was to use the female toilets because I had started transition (Name Change Deed, Hormones etc)

I don't think you should be using the men's if you have already started the ball rolling and when you have the ball rolling nobody should stop you or tell you to use the other toilets. It comes under the discrimination law for transgender people I believe.

As for those who are fine with your gender change but insist on calling you 'he' just call them out. Say politely and firmly 'My preferred pronouns are 'she', 'her' and 'hers'' If they fail to do so, just misgender them until they get the message. And be persistent.  ;)

Sorry I couldn't help with the actual laws but I'm pretty sure you should just do whatever the ->-bleeped-<- you want cause everyone else does ;)

In the uk you use the toilets of the gender you present at the time obviously if you are fulltime or had surgery you use the correct loo.

When I first started this, our site manager where I live said "once I have changed I can use the female toilets". But I have not changed, totally, in looks. I can't even use the men's toilets. But I wouldn't want too!!

If the site manager still said after SRS, I couldn't use the female toilets, would this mean she'd be breaking the law by not letting me use them?

And would it be best to tell her that I've had SRS (once I have?).

And just so you know, I live in a park home on a park site and could easily walk back to my house to use the toilet. But that is something I should not have to do!!!

This is also my understanding of UK law.

i just seen this

As a member of an LGBT/Police liaison group, and this question has been addressed several times.
It may surprise you to know that there is NO law in the UK that defines who may, or may not, use a public toilet; provided that a person is using it ONLY for it's intended use, anyone may use any public toilet. No offence is committed if a man uses a female toilet (or a woman, vice versa) for those purposes.

Most Police forces take the simple view; if you're dressed as a woman (and using it only for it's intended use), you may use the female toilets; if you're dressed as a man (and using it only for it's intended use) you may use the male toilets, regardless of actual gender or anatomy.

Transsexual people are a slightly different issue; a transsexual woman in transition is REQUIRED by her treatment protocols to use female facilities at all times(and vice versa for transsexual men, of course) regardless of her stage of treatment or external appearance.

Many transsexual people, and some transvestites, prefer to try to avoid any potential embarrassment by using disabled facilities where available; but there is no legal requirement for them to do this.

Forgot to say, my psychiatrist is sorting out my gender recognition certificate. But should I have to carry this with me? Don't see why I should have to do that.

I am sure I do have to sign something, but only he can do my supporting letter and he already has my evidence of RLE.

He said, if he does it for me, I won't have to pay.

Understand, that my psychiatrist works for the NHS gender clinic in London, but I see him privately at his Saturday clinic.

:-\ this topic really irritates me in that trans women aren't allowed in women's bathrooms.  Well screw that!  I'm not about to use a men's public restroom looking like a female.  That's just asking to get hurt or raped.  I may be only 4 months on HRT now and have a bare minimum pass level going, but I can assure you I will be using the women's restrooms.  Over the 4th of July weekend I was down in Florida and was using the woman's restroom anytime I needed it, and what a surprise to see some girls occasionally in front of me, holding the door as I followed them in.  So even if I got called out (doubtful) most people aren't that rude.  Then I would have pulled out my letter from my purse stating Gender Dysphoria.  Think of it as your get out of jail free pass.  Because you can argue that your brain tells you what your gender is and what restroom you should be using.  GG's have nothing to worry about..( well maybe jealousy if we look better then them ). I would never be forced into using the mens. Tbh, I would ignore any advice to the contrary. It seems that the law says that they cannot charge you with anything, and gender identity is on the list of protected discriminations, so to have a discriminatory policy would I am guessing leave them in breach of the law in the UK anyway. I am sure I have read about people being sued for blocking trans access to toilet facilities in the UK. I recall a shopping mall getting into hot water several months ago for that.
