"In the days after the Supreme Court handed Hobby Lobby a sweeping victory in its fight to not provide employee health insurance that covers certain kinds of birth control, many customers came into the store in Aurora, Illinois, where Meggan Sommerville works, and offered their congratulations.

Sommerville is a transgender woman, and back in 2011, she filed a complaint against Hobby Lobby with the Illinois Department of Human Rights after the company refused to allow her to use the women's bathroom either as a customer or an employee."

I hope the Supreme Court realizes these are the types of doors they have opened.

Still don't understand how allowing someone to use the bathroom in peace and comfort violates Christian ethics. I must have missed the bible passage where Jesus talked about the importance of making it hard for people to pee.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

What do they think is going to happen if she uses the women's restroom? Seriously...you're in a stall. Your own private stall. Unless due to following biblical ways they simply have holes in the ground with no partitions.

I can almost see HL going down in a blaze of litigation, fueled by their own too-strict enforcement of biblical standards...
...I think for most of us it is a futile effort to try and put this genie back in the bottle once she has tasted freedom...

This whole bathroom thing needs to come to a head (so to speak) ASAP on a nationwide level, so we can settle this BS once and for all.

Using ladies' bathroom table:

Present female?    Look female?     Vagina?      Use bathroom?
           NO                      NO              NO               NO
          YES                      NO              NO                ?
           NO                      NO              YES               ?
           NO                     YES              NO                ?
          YES                     YES              NO                ?
           NO                     YES              YES               ?
          YES                      NO              YES               ?
          YES                     YES              YES             YES

We can't exactly check genitals at the door, so for argument's sake, we can wipe out that entire vagina column.

Present female?    Look female?           Use bathroom?
           NO                      NO                           ?
          YES                      NO                           ?
           NO                     YES                           ?
          YES                     YES                           ?

The fact is that you indeed CAN present female and look female without having the equipment, and nobody will ever be any the wiser and there are *big surprise* no problems.  You can also have the equipment, be legally or cis female, but somehow your looks place you in doubt and you have issues.  I have seen a butch lesbian get called out in a public bathroom before and a threat of calling police was issued.

Since all transpeople (and all people, for that matter) must be treated equally before the law, "passing" or not, and we won't be having bathroom police checking IDs and genitals, the only logical thing to do is have people use the bathroom they are most comfortable using, regardless of how they make others feel by merely existing.

I know I've oversimplified things for the sake of post length, but this is what these mouth breathers need to think about.  After all, we really can't have FTMs in the mens' rooms either... /sarc

I think you bring up another good point about the bathroom problem as well; That is masculine presenting women often times get questioned as well.

What is it with the USA and toilets?

You defend the right and can walk around armed with the most lethal weapons we have in public but you cannot go to the toilet!

Amazing.

Pretty much, yeah. I like firearms and shooting at targets and if someone breaks into my home. But I have no clue as to why this whole bathroom issue is such an issue. But unfortunatly people spread fear that if transgenders use the bathroom that they are presenting as it will turn into some sexual side show or something. I think all bathrooms should be unisex. By adding a little feminine touch guys might actually start flushing the freakin' toilets if they think a woman may use it after them. Believe me a public restroom is the least romantic place that I think I could ever think of so I don't know where that line of thinking comes from either ifthat's what the fearmongers think.

Yep, sure have been and I still stand that the restroom is the least romantic place I can think of. Why do you think that I mentioned about the toilets being flushed? I took a shower every morning and did my business there :embarrassed:, they were clean. I was always like if you like me there are plenty of nice hotels with truck parking and a bar or cabs that can take us to a nice hotel. I am definately not that type of girl for a quicky in the bathroom. And definately not in the sleeper of a truck. Ya' gotta wine and dine me and I have pretty good tastes. :)
